Those kids never been outside, they do not know what it is to play with other kids, how it is to play outside.... unbelievable, dont u think? | Here are questions I have: 1. How do three of the children live with the grandparents...including the grandmother who claims she didn't know where her daughter was or what happened to her. 2. Who delivered these children? Child birth is not easy. It does say only 6 lived but still. 3. As a collective society why do we hold a trial and allow them to live in a prision system with food water and all other conveinces of life. (DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION ON HERE...it could cause upset feelings. I only posted it because I wonder it and wish others would think about it more sometimes!) I just saw dateline or a show like it the other night talking about a man who held at least 5 women hostage in an underground basement he built. It started when his wife was ill and continued after she died. The women were all released after a while and one went to the police who didn't believe her. Everyone was a different race and ranged from 16 to 50 in age. He was also a hoarder who lived really cheap has a million dollars to his name. He stated in his interview that he was nice to these women and gave them everything they wanted expect to leave when they wanted to. The one comment that will always stick with me is that he said women wear jewelry everyday when he was asked about chaining them to the floor. He made a plea deal of 18 yrs to life in prision and would divide his million dollars up for the 5 women. |

| I read up on this. She had been molested by her father from the age of 11. * She was drugged by her father when she was 18 and that's when she 'disappeared' and was captive from then on. She was kept in a soundproofed cellar where no one in the family was allowed to go. A few months after she disappeared her father had her write a note saying not to look for her anymore and that she was fine. *3 of her children were put on the doorstep as babies. One or more had a note attached from her stating she could not care for them and asked her parents to raise the child. The 3 children raised by their 'grandparents' are all doing well in school and seem fine. They had no clue they had siblings nor that their grandfather is really their father nor that their mother and other siblings were kept captive in the cellar. *The children living in the cellar had never seen the light of day. One was a daughter, 19, who was brought to the hospital which in the end is what got him caught. There was also an 18 yr old son and a 5 yr old son living in the cellar with their mother. *The wife of the man doing this had no clue this was going on - her daughter even stated she doubted her mother knew. Apparently the man's wife didn't know the children were down there, because he had a hidden door with a code that only HE knew. Imagine if he died, no one would have known those poor children were down there Here's another link:Horror in a cellar: woman tells of 24 years of imprisonment and rape by her father | World news | The Guardian |

| I still cannot believe the story. What a traumatic experience for all involved. Can you imagine being in a cellar for over 20 years? All the AFCers posts pose great questions. Sorry, for me, it is still hard to digest this whole story. |

| People can be very cruel. I learned this working in mental health and taking histories. The sad thing is, the victims of this will probably never know what it is like to live free and happy. When he is dead and gone they will still have bad memories and deep fears. This is the kind of stuff medicine can't fix. |

| How awful... I just know that if it was my daughter that was missing there would be no amounts of notes that would keep me from looking for her... even if she said not too. |
