| Whirlpool Plant closing
After being in Evansville, Indiana, 53 years, the Whirlpool plant here that manufacturers top-mount freezer/refrigerators, has decided to move it's manufacturing to Mexico. This is so sad for our economy and the 1400 (plus about 800-900 laid off) workers that will be jobless between now and Summer 2010. There are a lot of companies that also supply to Whirlpool that will be hit hard by this news. Whirlpool will close Evansville plant | VIDEO » Evansville Courier & Press

Just awful. I feel so bad for the AMERICAN WORKER in these tough economic times. Guess we should all start buying US made products only---but unfortuntely those tend to cost more $$$$.

Sorry to hear this.... I know in our area they closed the Herrin, IL about a year to year and a half ago, and it greatly affected many people we know. More recently it affected friends we have that worked in the Circut City plant. Lots of prayers and hugs going out to everyone involved.

Whirlpool has been one of our largest employers (small city) and we've already been hit hard by a lot of store closings and such, as has every city in America. I wish we could just stop the bleeding!!! What's sad is how all of our jobs are going to Mexico and illegal Mexicans are coming up here to try to find what's left. Doesn't make sense.

this needs to stop. Our government need to give Tax breaks or something to help keep companies here.

the Whirlpool plant here in Ft Smith went from 3200 employees in 2006 down to 700 this year and I dread the next horrible news will be closing ![]() they've started outsourcing to Mexico, first in trickles as early as 2004 here but most people didn't see the writing on the wall. And now, a lot of people are jobless

I'm sorry to hear that the Whirlpool plant is closing. It is very tough. I'm in Michigan and it is very sad to see all the businesses that have closed and empty houses. Plant closings do affect all the businesses around them.

| What's sad is that our city and county DID give them many tax BIG tax breaks over the years -- just wasn't enough.

I don't think we can blame Obama for this.He has only been in office for a short time and this job outsourcing has been going on for quite a long time.
