Just a mile or so from home. . .man killed

I had this young man in SS years and years ago when he was a toddler. So hard to imagine. DH called this morning and said there was an accident in Cylon. Well, he was hit by the train, I just can't imagine.

New Richmond man victim of ATV-train accident

Vincent V. Timm, 31, New Richmond, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident this morning when he was struck by a westbound Canadian National train in Cylon at 5:45 a.m. this (Wednesday) morning.

According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department, Timm was operating a 1989 Yamaha 350 ATV and attempting to cross the Wisconsin Central Rail Road Line tracks approximately one-quarter mile east of CTH O, near his place of employment, when his ATV got hung up on the tracks.

Officials say that heavy fog restricted visibility and the conductor did see the ATV in time to stop even though he put on the train's brakes. The train consisted of 100 cars carrying 9,722 tons of cargo.

This incident remains under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Department.

His poor family. It was so awful foggy this morning, that I could see how it could happen. DH figured he was actually taking the train track to work. UGH.

I take a commuter train every day to work here in Chicago. You wouldn't believe the number of people that get hit by trains. Mostly it's people crossing the tracks to catch a train and they don't look and they get hit and killed. A lot of suicides too ... so sad. People in cars that can't wait the 5 minutes for the train to clear, they drive around the gate and BAM ... a train hits them from the other direction.

Thankfully I've never been on a train that struck someone but I have been on a train behind a train that did and the images of body bags covering body parts is not something I would want etched in my head. I feel so badly for the engineers that are working in these accidents. I can't even imagine the emotional trauma they must endure.

It was foggy this morning- they said it was thicker on the East side (or W. Wisconsin). Sorry to hear this.
