I just heard on the news that if you haven't voted in the last 6 years, that you are not considered a registered voter. So, if you go to vote, you may be turned away! I didn't know this!! You have until 10/10/08 to register so that you can vote in this very important presidential election. You can pick up registrations at your local library , post office, or tag agency. GO VOTE!!!!!!!!!

hmm I registered to vote in 2000, but never voted.. I'm definitely going to this Nov. And I recently moved to a new county so I sent in my change of address to the Voter Registration office in my new county and they sent me a letter back saying they received it, so I should be ok right?

wait never mind I answered my own question ... I went to the voter registration website for my state and put in my name and it came up saying that I am registered. So if anyone isn't sure they should do the same!

Double check as well if that's how it works in your state. Each state has variances with voter registration. Also, some states allow you to register right on the day you go to vote!

like maxxme said, each state has their own policies, and those policies tend to change often as well

OK I went to the canivote website and went to the virginia site to check if I can vote and it says it can't find my information or something? I have a voter registration card in my wallet right here that says it was issued on 10/10/2004.... It doesn't say any expiration date though... any know if this is still good? I am freaking out now

Call you local voters registration office - I bet they are open today. In most states the cut off for the November election is October 6th not the 10th. Each state has their own dates so check with them first. Also your state and even the local voters registration office has their own ways of clearing people off that have not voted in several years. So call and ask them. I would not rely on a site like canivote I would call the local authority and check there.
