what can you do,just be ready...and make sure you will be safe. we were not directly hit by katrina 3 years ago,but we lost power for a week, lost some of our roof,we lost our pool, and lost time at work...and had no running for 4 days... gas station are low,and some don't even have any gas left.. I have food, drink,I bagged my own ice for 3 days now,and stuffed it in walmart bag in teh freezer.we fired up our generator to see it it worked. we have enough card games, books and have recharged anything and everything we thought about.... we are just waiting now...

Yeah, Noahsmama, Katrina actually didn't hit NOLA as much as it hit coastal MISS...it's just the levee's broke. Imagine what will happen if NOLA actually gets the direct hit from a cat4/5. It will make Katrina look like nothing. That is a scary, sobering thought. I pray this thing peters out, but I have a bad feeling about this one. We have a lot of loved ones on the coast from TX to MS.

that is all we do too.. we have been getting our generators ready and sandbags will be 2morrows chore. praying for god's guidamce and protection! so we will be as ready as we can..we do have two hotel rooms reserved in Dalllas for us through the generosity of my dad's truck driving company that he works for.so that is a confort and we may very well useit! this storm may bring 15 foot surges to us if it moves any further west.. alot of times..most of the time being right on the east side is worse than being in the pat..we are less than hour inland..

Even though we are 2 1/2 hours away from the Mississippi Coast we still had a lot of damage from Katrina and where out of lights and water for over a week and a half. We live in the country so we are always last on the list of being serviced. I went today and stocked up on food and drinks and lots of water. I filled up the van and hubby filled up the cans for the generator. Most of the stores around here are running out of can food, water and the gas stations are running low. I will just be praying and keep going that is all we can do. My dd is afraid of bad weather. In Feb. we had a tornado where we live and 3 trees fell on the house and my van so she really is scared now days. So I have my hands full. I also have a lot of my family living in New Orleans and outter areas. I know a lot of them are coming this way. Everyone stay safe and I will be praying for you all.

I am in Houston and 50/50 chance of it coming between NOLA and here. DH says he is not leaving. It was mandatory evacuation for Rita (right after Katrina) and we spent 17.5hrs. on highway and never made it out of Houston. I pray for the safety of all of us in the path. Hanna is right on his heels, too, sigh. Cheri
