| Dumb criminal of the day! Seriously...if you are going to hold people hostage in their home, point a gun at them, and demand money from them...don't flee the scene on an ATV!! Get a car!! I'm so glad everyone but him got out of this situation unhurt. Family Of 8 Held At Gunpoint By Home Intruder WALNUT COVE, N.C. -- A man who broke into a Forsyth County home Wednesday evening and held four adults and four children at bay while displaying a handgun, was discovered unconsciousness later after he apparently wrecked the ATV he was using to flee the area, department spokesman Maj. Brad Stanley said. Stanley said the man, Bruce Edward Kerns Jr., 27, of Germanton, forced his way into the home on Lake Woussicket Road in Walnut Cove around 9:45 p.m. Inside, Audrey Shipley said he held her, her parents and her five children at gunpoint for over 30 minutes while demanding money. Shipley said her mother was able to crawl away and called police. "The only one he really touched was me," she said. "He had a gun pretty much to everybody. He was waving it every which way. When he didn't have it at my temple, he had it on everybody. But he had me around the neck, the whole time pretty much." Stanley said deputies found Kerns unconscious at the corner of Woussicket Road and Highway 311. He had crashed the ATV, which had been reported stolen on July 18 in Iredell County. Kerns was taken to Forsyth Medical Center for treatment, then placed in the Forsyth County Jail on a $280,000 bond. He has been charged with first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery and felony possession of stolen property. Last edited by CM_ANGEL; 08-21-2008 at 05:12 PM. |

| I love Jay Leno's stupid criminals! I heard one today that a guy stole 5 Pizza Hut signs and called the manager asking for ransom money to return them. The manager said he was not paying unless the man could prove he had the signs, so the guy took a picture with his cell phone and sent it to the manager. He was caught by tracing his phone. Dumb! LOL! I heard that on K-LOVE this morning on the way to school. ![]() |
