I made a quick trip to Walgreens today for the scrunci. I grabbed a soda and scrunci and went to the front registers. The line was very long, register on the right was the only one open. Then 1 register opened on the left some people moved to that line, there was an old man in front of me that stayed in the middle of the registers. Someone behind me walked passed me and him. Another register opened up on the left, and he stayed there. Now each register had 1 customer. The man moved his cart toward the right, do I was going to go to one of the left ones. Then as I went to go he moved his cart to block me. I asked him which line was his going in, he said "I'm next" so the one on left was almost done and his cart was angled to the left he took a step. The right register was empty so I walked up to it. This man started yelling don't serve her she cut everybody in this line. Now all three registers were empty, he's blocking everyone and yelling at me. He's being checked out to and is still yelling at me. I asked the check out person if I was wrong, but did not get an answer. I was totally embarrassed. I have never had that happen at a store. I have usually wound up in a slow line wishing I chose a different line. I didn't know Walgreens had banking lines to wait here until the next available worker can assist you.
Was I wrong is that the way it is?

It doesn't work that way at my Walgreen's. You pick a line (there is usually only 1 anyway) and then IF another line opens, you get in it or stay in the old one. You don't stay in the middle & see who moves quickest. Sounds like a crotchety old man to me.

I think the only place that it applies to is when it says line starts here...otherwise it doesn't. I can't believe he yelled at you. That's just crazy.

People like that can really bring you down and make you feel awful. Shrug it off because he was a fussy old man who decided to guard the lines and that he was the official rule setter!!!! Please!!! How ridiculous...!!! I'm sorry he did that to you.

How embarassing. Unless there was a sign that said to start the line at a certain place he was wrong to attempt to hold a place in ALL the lines. Honestly is anyone had tried to stand up to him it very well may have made it worse. Some people are the type that they are not happy no matter what you do. The only thing you can do is accept it, and don't take it personally. I'm sure when he got home he told his wife (or family) what happened and she scolded him

Thank you for your responses. I am A nice easy going person who usually puts others first. I have felt bad about this all afternoon , but now I can let it go.

When stuff like that happens just smile and say "Have a nice day". Someone taught me that over 30 years ago and it always works. It ticks them off and at the same time tends to stop them in their tracks.
I am sure it was embarrassing but try to shrug it off and let it go. The world is full of jerks.

I've been couponing for 30+ years. I can't imagine ever shopping without them
