Best Banks?

I'm finally so frustrated with Bank of America I want to change all of our accounts.

We have two business checking accounts, one personal checking account, a savings account a roth IRA and a commercial mortgage and a residential mortgage.

Anyone out there thrilled with their bank? Great no fee checking? Any advice let me know. I've been googling all morning.

I would avoid banks totally and go with a credit union. I thought they were hard to get into, but found it was easier than a bank! They have free checking, great rates for loans, and lots of perks. Plus, they are generally free of the red tape a bank poses. You have a 'member fee' of sorts, where every member has to have a savings account and keep $5 in it that you can't use. But if you close the accounts you have with them, you can get it back.

I have been extremely happy with mine in MI. Look for them in your area. There are usually lots of options.

I couldn't agree more! My credit union has spoiled me! I switched at my DH's bank after we got married, and switched back to the cu within 3 months. We have free checking, free online banking, no minimum checking balance, and are only required to have a minimum $5 savings balance.

If you can't find a cu at least shop around to other banks.. I have heard very few good things about bank of America. Good luck!

If you're cool with online banks, I use ING for a basic savings account. The interest is 1% on it. I've never used their checking accounts or anything else, though, so I can't really speak for anything except the savings.

I've gotten out of the big banks like Citi and BoA years ago since their service sucks.

DH and I transferred to a credit union till I discovered better interest rates @ local banks. Not only do they offer personalized service but they are also very easy to deal with. Our local bank gives 4.15% APY on a reward checking account for balance up to 20K and any amount above it earns 1.25% APY.

one of the requirements to earn the high interest is to swipe my DC 12 times a month, no minimum amount of purchases. swipes as low as .50 are counted. Their online banking is on real time so debits and credits are posted within the day.

IF, one of these days they will also start charging so they'll take fees from the interest I'm earning, I'll switch to perkstreet in a heartbeat until they also change the rules.

I'm very happy with my credit union, but if I were you, I wouldn't pay to change my mortgages....that would cost me money I wouldn't want to pay.

As long as you pay your payments on time, it doesn't matter all that much who holds your mortgage. Not sure I explained that: Don't cut off your nose to spite Bank of America.....It won't cost you (and will probably SAVE) you much money to change your other accounts, but it would be costly to refinance your mortgages just to spite BoA however ~tempting~ it may be.

I absolutely love USAA. They recently opened their banking services up to everyone, so they're definitely worth looking into.

They don't have many physical branches so they reimburse ATM fees up to $15 per month.

But yea I have free checking, they send me free checks, free deposit envelopes that have prepaid postage!, and give interest on the checking account (albeit .05%, but hey that's still better than 0%).

I <3 USAA :-). They're also extremely friendly on customer service so anytime I call they're very pleasant and easy to understand. Best bank I use (I use quite a few banks to get random free offers but always keep my primary business at USAA.)

I also love my credit union. $5 minimum balance in each account, no fees. I moved 500 miles away from my credit union but because of the Xtended branch system, I didn't have to change banks. Granted, if I use another credit union they have strange rules, like it's free to withdraw money UNLESS I made a deposit the same day. But with my debit card and money back at stores, I don't need to use ATMs or pay the fees.

LOVE my credit union(checking, savings, side share savings). Although, our mortgage is with a big national bank.

We have their insurance services - those are eligibility based (military). But their banking is open to anyone. Customer service is THE BEST!

Credit unions are the best way to go. You can also have business accounts there. I love mine and will NEVER go back to a "regular" bank again.
