I have started making my gifts already! We can't afford to buy most things (DH's employer just told him a month or so ago that he will now have to pay 2/3 of his insurance plus all of mine--which is coming out to some ungodly amount like $700/month. We already lived on one income while I started a business, but now we're actually behind!) but I got a gigantic stash of fabric from my grammy's estate, and will be making all sorts of fun projects. One aunt will be getting a bright colored set of fabric coasters, my mom will be getting a homemade heat wrap and slippers, etc.

So true! Any extras can definitely go towards a good home.

I wish I could sew! I've tried it before and it just doesn't click for me.

I've actually finished already. I finished mid August. My kids are very young (2 and 8 months) so they don't really care about whats 'cool' yet they just want things to play with. I've got stuff on Clearance at some grocery stores (Including a Dora doll house for $5!) and on amazon with my swag bucks. Christmas is pretty much free this year, thank goodness! I think i've spent about 30 dollars altogether and they have a lot of stuff. I'll probably end up donating some of it, last year we adopted a family but we just can't afford it this year... we will get some tickets off the tree though at our YMCA.

I will probably spend $5 on stocking fillers. We do put $10 per paycheck in a Christmas jar and i'm just going to use that for Christmas groceries and anything else that might crop up like buying a Tree!

I just watch all the daily deals like a hawk, my daughters 1st birthday is in January and my oldest in March so I have a lot of spending in a short time. It pays to start early for me!

We need one too. I was hoping to find one last year after Christmas but I just didn't see much marked down.

I bought the Keurig machine for my dh for Christmas a couple of years ago..He loves it! Since the k-cup's are so expensive I bought the insert to save money and buying on sale coffee..I normally have at least bought a couple of presents by now..but, my kids are all teenage boys that have pretty much everything they want either from me/dh or from working at their jobs..I did lose my job of many years so money is not there like it use to be..I do have some ideas I think I will get my youngest a I-pod touch along with some model cars he can build himself ..I'm gonna buy my middle son some Marine Corp novelty stuff,,he plan's to join the Marines as soon as he graduates from high school..he love's Dakkar cologne so I will buy that..My oldest I have no clue yet!

I completely understand this. My ds will be 2 on December 29th so it gets expensive this time of year.

I've been checking on prices and different models. I think the k-cups are so overpriced, but I also saw about the inserts. Besides we have lots of coffee that can be used up. I'm still trying to decide about the machine. I know my dh would like it but I don't want a lot of money spent on k-cups. Course now he goes to MD's for ice coffee several times a week. Coffee is really his only splurge, so I just let it go. I don't think the machine would cut down MD expense but just add to the output.

I started early this year because last year we didn't have a Christmas because things were so bad. So, I bought an Easy Bake oven for my niece at Wal-mart cuz it was marked down to 10. Everytime my grandson goes down stairs he asks if he can play with it and then we can put it back in the box so Bella doesn't know it was used. I'm probably going to end up giving it to him. I bought him a set of roller blades I found new at a garage sale. A Jenga games with a mq at Wal-mart. Some blaster gun he wanted from the store while we were shopping at Rite Aid. I told him he couldn't have it but then snuck it to the cashier and in the bag it went - great use for +Ups. Plus, we own a hamburger place and he's always wanting to set up a stand to sell sodas, to make money, so I bought him the cutest little lemonade stand - ever! Seven years old and he's an entrepreneur already. Hopefully we will be in a better situation this Christmas but if not I"m already ahead of where we were last year.

I did not start until a few weeks ago. I have to purchase for my children, man and my parents. I have no nieces or nephews and unless my brother sends a gift or visits, I am not planning on sending more than a holiday card to him.

I plan to get my man a Ralph Lauren winter jacket and give him the Lauren wallet I purchased last year. I asked my son what we should write for a list for Santa. He said he does not know. He has everything he want. I know clothes for spring are needed. I already have a few things after coupons and sales or clearance. I am pulling $20-$30 a paycheck and picking up as I find the deals.

I will make stockpile gift baskets for my parents: one with HBA items and one with holiday goods. I have to ship as we live far away and won't make it home for the holidays.

I put $50/mo into a Christmas account. I call it my Christmas account, but it also covers birthday gifts, postage to ship Christmas gifts to family members, and the occasional wedding/graduation gift that pops up. I started doing this about 5 years ago and it has made a huge difference in my spending habits. Some months it isn't easy to put the $50 into the account. But each fall when I start my serious Christmas shopping, I am so glad I did it!!!
I have a debit card for the account so I can pick up deals when I see them. I have already finished Christmas shopping for several family members.
I also stock up on wrapping paper and Christmas cards right after Christmas.
My office has a Christmas party every year and we play "dirty Santa". I buy next year's gift for the party after Christmas as well. In Jan 2011 I bought a high end stocking holder set for around $6... It was $56 regular price. I dont have to worry about buying for a particular person because I don't know who will end up with it! I just try to find a nice gift at a good price.
I keep all of my gifts in a closet and my family is warned to stay out of the closet. Lol
I have to mail gifts to my stepmother and brother in NH. (I live in AL) When I buy a gift for them, I try to buy things that are lightweight so the postage isn't outrageous.
After Christmas sales are so much fun.....
I look forward to it every year.
If there is any money left in the account after Christmas is over, I buy something for myself! :-)

Does it have to be a keurig coffee machine? Gevalia coffee is forevermore offering start-up deals for people who don't subscribe to their coffee program, and lots of times a very nice free coffee maker is included in the deal. You might want to check it out.You can quit the program any time you want...like right after they deliver the coffee machine.

May you always be blessed with ample coupons, great deals, and courteous, efficient cashiers!

That Gevalia company's phone number is ONE DIGIT different than my work number and I get calls meant for them all the time!! These people give me their SSN, DOB, all kinds of personal information before I realize they've called the wrong number.

My parents have a Keurig and an accessory called My K or something like that - basically it's a reusable filter and lets you use any ground coffee in the machine. Much less expensive than buying the K Cups.

It's never too early to think or shop for Christmas. I already have all of my mixes for baked goods that I give away to doctors/staff. The ornaments have been purchased (for this year and next). I really only have candy and stocking stuffers (buy those throughout the year) left to purchase.

THANK YOU! I just signed up. I'm still trying to decide but at least I can start getting k-cups. I probably should have picked up some last week at Office Depot when they were free after rewards. Hopefully some sales on the pots and k-cups will come up. I might as well take the plunge!

Office Depot usually does this more than once a year (K-Cups) on the Worklife Rewards. I buy them for the teachers gifts. You can buy two per person per day when they are on rewards, don't forget to give them your school forthe 5% back to School rewards too! You don't get the rewards for a couple of months, but can just keep buying the new Rewards items with the gift card. Or do like I did last year, I knew I was going to have to buy a new computer, so I took the money and I bought ALL the worklife Rewards (over $600 worth of items), used them for gifts and donated items to my DD's teachers and school. Then when the rewards card came I bought my new HP computer. It worked for me because I had the money for the computer...

Office Depot has great items that you can use for Christmas gifts on Worklife Rewards. Last year all my sisters got new staplers and Fiskar scissors!

I get confused between Staples and Office Depot Rewards programs. I know at Staples if you use rewards on new reward items you won't get rewards back. However, you can use them on rebate or other items. I haven't shopped at Office Depot much, but I know you can use their rewards on postage stamps (unlike Staples). From what you're saying, it sounds like I can just keep rolling reward items there? I'm definitely go to be on the lookout for the next k-cup sale! Do they have different flavors or just the basics?

They have a huge selection, everything from decaf, to half caf, Newmans, Donut Shoppe, Green Mountain, I can't remember them all as I am NOT a coffee drinker! I haven't ever had a problem using a rewards card on a rewards item at Office Depot or Office Max but have heard about that issue at Staples, that you only get a reward on the amount you spend, so use your rewards there for something else.

And Remember, Office Depot has 3 programs, one for Star Teachers Rewards, Work Life Rewards and 5% Back to Schools Rewards. I always use both my Work Life Rewards and my DD's School. The Work Life Rewards is identified off your phone number and the schools each have their own id #. If you don't have school age children just pick your local elementary school, they have lists at the register here.

You can look online to see what K-cups they usually have at Office Depot. Even on Saturday they still had quite a few of them to choose from. You can always just buy what they have on hand and then take them back to exchange for the ones you want when they get them back in stock.
