Would you get the $114 Kindle as a gift?

I was thinking of getting a family member a Kindle for Christmas - they've made many mentions about mine and how they'd like to have one too. I was wondering if it would seem too "cheap" if I purchased the $114 Special Offers Kindle as the gift instead of paying $139 for one without the ads. What do you think - would you give one as a gift? What would you think if you got one as a gift?

I think its cool. Especially if they like deals at all. on SD they have a whole thread of great stuff that people get for really cheap using those deals.

I'd get the one with the ads. I bought the "regular" one for my son (21) and he loves it! His 12 year old sister wants one and she's getting one with the ads. Primarily it's because I'm tired of looking for all the "deals" online that come up on the one with ads!

I probably wouldn't get the Kindle with special offers. I can't stand ads when browsing the web let alone reading.

However, if I recall correctly, the ads are just a screensaver on it. I'm not sure if it is illegal or not given it is legal to "jailbreak" a phone, but you can "jailbreak" Kindle's to put custom screensavers on it. I suppose you could just change the screensaver. I would look into the legality of this before doing so though.

Thanks for all the opinions - she's ok with deals, not completely into it but not completely against. I've been thinking about it and I think I'm going to get the $114 one but then also get her a $25 gift card so she can get some content besides just the free stuff.

I don't mind the ads at all. They are really just screen savers. I do mind the fact that mine is not lighted though. I assumed they all came with a light. They don't.
