She started saving at age 9 and has saved over $4,000! I love Consumerist, but sometimes their commenters are just too mean... At least she's thinking, doing the math and at the grocery store instead of on Facebook all day! She isn't necessarily going to be a hoarder because she started couponing young. What do you guys think?

I think she's making a smart decision! It's important to learn the concept of money at a young age. She will more than likely be successful in the future

Geez, maybe this attitude is why so many people are in financial messes. A child has a money saving hobby and adults are mocking her for it. Really?!?!?!? Who is she hurting?

Did you read some of the comments about the story? What a bunch of haters. Implying that couponing a few hours a week is unhealthy. I wonder how many of their kids are stting in front of the TV/video games, etc. They are complaining that adding and subtracting for a 12 year old is not math skills for that age group (they need to see some of our posts on kids at fast food resaurants who can't make change unless the cash register tells them what to give). I lost my dad at 12 and my mom at 17, so I had to balance the family budget at an early age. You never know what live can throw at you and I think she is learning some great consumer skills!

I read some of the comments and they were horrible. She's 12 and spending her time saving money on stuff her family buys anyways. I think that's amazing. She could be doing drugs, having sex, playing video games or countless other not so great or horrible things and yet shes spending her time saving money and helping her family. Yea she's a horrible child -rolls eyes-, those people commenting on her like that makes me sick, I bet their kids r eating fast food and watching tv, playing video games and talking on the phone all day ...

I saw this video earlier this week and all I can say is what an amazingly smart child! What morons those folks must be to pour negative comments on a child who is saving her family money?
