Save on gasoline for mowing the lawn

DH and I purchased a non-motorized, reel push lawn mower. I've been wanting to try one, and we picked up an old one at a yard sale for $10. We have a fairly small lawn (.1 acre property), so I think it might just work. DH oiled it up and sharpened the blades. We'll save the expense of gasoline, it's better for the environment and we can mow the lawn any time of day (i.e. the cool, early morning hours) without disturbing the neighbors. And, as I just learned, it takes some muscle, so it's a good workout, too Has anybody else tried one of these before? What is your opinion of them?

We use one. Then again, we live in an urban area and it literally takes 4 pushes to mow the lawn. We spend more time dragging it out of the shed and putting it away than we do mowing. So, I am not a fair judge of actually mowing a real lawn with one : )

I have Strong Opinions on gas powered mowers.

I love our reel mower, and honestly don't understand why anyone needs a gas mower. So you have a big yard... plant something other than grass. Or get livestock.

Growing up, we had a 1/2 acre yard that took forbloodyever to mow. Now, we have a 1/10 acre yard that's mostly berry/veggie garden, and we can mow in five minutes. It's pretty cool.

I have almost an acre of lawn, but I can't just go and plant it all up with random plants and our town has rules against livestock. I am also on a "corner lot" as the town says so I can't fence any of it. It's not like I can put some cows or goats on it, besides the livestock would cost us more money than a mower and gas would.
