So we just started getting serious about scrap metal and went out tonight for about an hour and got a TON of stuff! An old broken grill, metal fan, walker, bike, metal TV stand, metal bed frames...and lots of other small stuff.
He said he thinks we have about $250 worth of metal in the back of the truck!

As If that wasn't cool enough...we found a house with a BUNCH of stuff on the curb...most all of it was in bags (good thing bc it raining here). I opened the biggest bag and realized it was full of clothes! Looked like they cleaned out their coat closet and just decided to throw it all away!!!

I got:
-A TOTES RAINCOAT!!!! YAAAAYYYY!!!!
-An Old navy hoodie
-A Ralph lauren hoodie
-Fruit of the Loom Plain sweatshirt
-Rt. 66 Hoodie
-Koman jacket (Men's VERY NICE!)

Its amazing what some ppl throw out, it goes to show that "one persons trash is another mans treasure" good job today!

I love curb shopping. Got my kids some nice Little Tikes toys that way. Just be sure to immediately disinfect the clothing- you don't want lice or bedbugs.

on the curb in front of someones house! They were just going to throw it away It was like a FREE Thrift Store!

I don't know if this will help you but there is a couple here that places signs around saying they will take things off peoples hands for free for the metal.

I know a lady that turned in an old non working treadmill. The couple came and got it and did not charge for removal.

Seems like better than sticking things in the dump whole.

I lost the couples card but wish I had kept it!

That happened to us once. We were in a small apartment complex and a house right around us was always up for rent. The family threw so much out before they left. We finally loaded the car because we got tired of walking. When we got done, we found books from the local library - returned them, cds, clothes, bedding, glassware. So much stuff. They had so much they threw out that it was sad.

I wish we could find scrap metal, but we have a metal place in the area so everyone picks it up.

We do scrap metal recycling as a business so I can stay home with our son. We have been very successful with it.

The methods we use is we post ads on craigslist, facebook amongst other sites pertaining to the metal pickup, this way we don't have to waste has driving around. People call everyday. We also do junk vehicle recycle(most places require a special state license for this). Once we really got going a few years ago and seen how successful it was I went and got a business license and we do this full time. We cater to residential people, apartments, reality companies, business, ect.. We also have a extended bed pickup with trailers ranging from 6 feet to 20 feet long.

My hubby and I scrap metal too. It has really helped us out when we didn't have any money to get us through til payday. We used to have someone around here that would bag up their beer cans and toss them in the ditch on a gravel road, so every time I went to town I would stop and pick them up...I haven't seen any bags of cans for a while though. I don't like it when people throw their trash out along the road, but atleast that person had the decency (sp?) to bag it up!

I had a lady cone to my door about a water heater my dh had in the side yard (we had just replaced ours) I told her she would have to come back as I don't know what dh was doing with it just yet she became very rude and mean with me and told me I was lucky cause most people would have just stollen it ect ect needless to say we did not give it to them but rather a sweet older couple driving by that inquired about it !!

Yeah some people make their living scraping...we just do it for a little extra money. We're headed out in an hour...hoping for $250

When we see things sitting in a yard I always approach then with a business card or a flyer right away and explain to then we can remove it, if they are nit ready or not sure what they are going to do with it hey, they have my info and all they will contact me when they are ready. I have left flyers and business cards on doors, gates, cars, ect... When I see people with things in their yard and they are not home or on a abandoned vehicle.

Does your area have a freebie classified paper...cos they may have their number in that. I work for one of t hose papers and there's usually a couple such ads

THANK YOU for doing that! I live in an old 1930s house, and we've had multiple experiences with people stealing stuff out of our yard when we've renovated. One time we removed a bunch of copper pipe from under the house and put it in the back yard, and 1/2 hour later (while we were still taking more pipe out) I went out there and a guy was loading it into his truck! I said, "excuse me, you're on my property and that's mine" and he put it back, but acted annoyed with me. It's great that you use flyers!
