bad cvs trip - lesson learned

the cvs i usually go to hasn't been very friendly so i've been trying to avoid it but it's near my daughter's school and my medication was running out so i was hoping to do a simple rx transfer for a gift card and then to use that gift card for a deal that i put together. my oop should have only been $1 or $2 (debited from the gc and leaving me with a balance of over $20.00) but instead the pharm tech rang up my purchase, debited the full retail value of every thing from the new gc (she never even told me my total and she still had the new gc), then she wouldn't or couldn't accept any of the coupons that i had ready for her. the manager came over to try to figure it out but she said that i would lose the new ecb printouts if they did a return and re-purchase on everything. i don't know if i did what was right, but i was tired and it was late so i walked out of there feeling horrible about a balance of $4 on what should have been a $25.00 gc and a bunch of overpriced items that should have been free.

my plan:
listerine smart rinse $3.49
gillette razor $9.99
kotex pantyliners $1.49
brut $3.19

and to use:
$4.00 gillette coupon
$1.00 kotex coupon
$.55 brut coupon
3/15 cvs coupon
and a $10. ecb

the cashiers at this cvs are especially picky even with coupons that are cut out of the newspaper. a few times they told me that i couldn't use a $1.00 j&j buddies coupon because the product was only $.99. other times, they make up excuses not to accept cvs coupons... like i should have brought in the entire newspaper page that the coupon was printed on. is this a common request for those of you here? i've spent so much money there... actual money that goes onto our credit card bill... yes i did walk out of the store that day with $11.98 in ecbs but i still feel bad about the lost $25 gc.

I would never go in that store again. But........that's just me. I won't put up with it. Then I would call the manager and tell him the reason why you are never shopping there again.

why couldn't they have voided it?

that's just crummy customer service, just because you got a gc from the prescription doesn't mean you were going to pay with it!

i think i would call the 800# about it, they didn't even let you use your q's!

sorry that happened to you, i know it makes you feel pretty bad when your whole transaction gets messed up

I would have said nevermind and asked for the $25 GC to be reissued and spent it at another CVS. I understand how it is when you are tired and everything goes worng though. Sorry you had a bad CVS day, it happens.

I think that was completely unacceptable!!! Absolutely, just because you were issued a GC doesn't mean you were going to use it as payment and there's no reason they shouldn't have accepted your coupons! They should have just voided the whole transaction and you wouldn't have lost any ecb's - it shouldn't have been done as a return - pp is correct - it should have just been voided and redone the way you intended! I would be livid if the cashier decided that I was going to use my GC to pay for my purchase, without my permission. I would also call corporate....

thanks for the advice. it's nice to be able to vent to someone who understands. even before this happened, i've contemplated about complaining to higher ups about this particular store. i should have listened to my gut instinct...

Yes, you should call corporate and explain that you would have paid much less after q's and see if they can do anything for you. Sorry you went through this.

I don't think you will lose your ecb's if it is voided b/c I have had a transaction voided and still got ecbs back. The whole reason it was voided was b/c the cashier decided that my oop was too low so she redid it. My kids were running around like little mad men, so I didn't argue when she huffed and said I have to void this..... oh well, I m sorry this happened to you, I would def call someone in the corporate world

only with the moral support of AFC CVSers could i have called to complain... just got off the phone with cvs customer service. their rep told me to return my transaction and re-ring the purchases with coupons credited. she also said that the ecb printout could be credited on a money card if they do not print. i've used some of the ecbs from this transaction already so it doesn't matter to me if they don't print. but i feel so much better knowing that i could get credited on the $19.66 that they charged me without using any coupons. i also lodged in my complaint about the horrible service at this particular cvs. hopefully they make some changes.

Thanks so much for helping me find an acceptable solution to this.

I'm happy to hear you called and they offered a solution to you! I hate to hear about someone's money being taken from them (even if it is in the form of a gc) It still belongs to you to do what you wish! Good for you!

I have had this happen to me before. The cashier rang everything up and then noticed I forgot my wallet. She voided everything out. I went to another CVS a few days later and my ECBs didn't print. I bought the correct products. After calling CS they corrected the error. Come to find out that after the cashier voided out the transaction the ECBs still print. CS could clearly tell that I did not actually buy the products the first trip. But I still had to wait about 5 days to get my ECBs. Oh well, I learned my lesson.

Take it all back and rebuy your way. If your ECB's won't work then call and get them reinstated.

I live in the middle of east nowhere and they just opened a CVS in the nearby town. I'll keep my fingers crossed! My experience so far has been pretty good.

I have only had 1 prescription filled at our local CVS, we have to do mail order. That one time I was not impressed with the Pharmacy dept. And not friendly at all.
