| Help:Softsoap Argument
Today I went in with my friend to get some softsoap, not thinking that the deal was only 3 days. I had already reached my limit. When her extra bucks didn't print, I went to check the paper and boom it was 3 days only. So we went to the car and she asked would I take it back for her. So the cashier was like You came in and bought soap on Mon. 4 times. You must have more than 1 card b/c the limit is 1. I tell her no and what does it matter how many soaps i buy. I then told her that on the internet it was stated that the limit had increased and she says well that's not in the paper. Why do you want to get 5 when the limit is 1? I asked her, why wouldn't I. Then the manager came and we went back and forth and he proceeded to say that if We keep giving things away, we're going to go out of business. I told him that they get their money from prescriptions. We go back and forth. Then the cashier and manager apologizes when I tell them that I will be calling corporate. I had to pay a $1 and some change each time b/c I had no q's and paid for them with the previous 4 ECB. I also didn't do it all at once. I did the deal Mon & Tues. I know that many of you ladies also got in on the softsoap deal. What do you think? Was it wrong to get 5 instead of 1. I don't feel bad about getting the 5.I want to call CVS and complain, but maybe I should leave it alone. Sorry so long.

I look at it like this. They allowed the limit of five. If it was a mistake they would have pulled it right away like they did with the diaper deal. Or even the Vitamin Water deal. For all we know the ad could have been a typo. I got my five by the way.

I would still complain. They didn't stop until you threatened them. They were out of line for saying anything to you. You can buy as many as you want!

You spent money in their store....plain & simple. Even the most rabid as close to $0 as you can get CVSers spend more than a few pennies all the time -- sometimes you just need stuff that isn't on sale. PLUS -- if its manufacturer coupons, they get paid back for them AND you're using THEIR OWN SYSTEM. If ECB was really bankrupting them, THEY WOULD STOP DOING IT. CVS is in the business to make money, just like everyone else. Call corporate on them. They make PLENTY of money and you're simply trying to stretch your dollar. And, who knows, with the money you save, you just might go BACK into CVS and spend it there! Jeez. What jerks!

I probably would rarely go into CVS if it wasn't for the Extra Buck deals. If their ad doesnt match what their computer is saying then that is on them. If they are so concerned about losing money, then they should spend the money to get their computers fixed.

I would call coporate why are they limiting you on how many you can buy, you don't have a magic button that made those ecbs come out, it was their computer, and how are they to know that you weren't already going to buy the 4 or 5 soaps. Just my opionion any way.

No, you didn't do anything wrong! They've done these "surprise" increases in limits from what's stated in the ad lots of times before. I'm sure they know what they're doing and it's not a mistake. By the way, in the two CVS stores I visited on Monday and Tuesday, the shelves were still fully stocked with these new Softsoaps. In each store, you could see that someone had taken ONE bottle. If no one else is going to buy them, why not us?

I didn't know that!! but it explains my ECBs not printing for me on Wednesday Duh!! I guess I should pay more attention to details. I guess I am keeping it, oh well I only paid 70¢. By the way, I have no problems buying 5 items when the limit is 1, their problem not mine!!

They were not "giving" anything away, they are going to get the money for the coupons back. I know you said you didn't use coupons, and in that case, you paid .99 each for them. as far the the limit, I agree they must have changed the limit after the paper was printed. I don't know what the deal is with them doing that. They did that with the Picture books and cd's a few weeks ago. I am so thankful for my CVS, I never would have known that if it wasn't for the manager that's always in there when I go in there, I was making one and he's like "you know you can do 5 right?" nice guy!

I had a problem doing this deal at the CVS store in Bowling Green, KY. They had them behind the counter and when I asked for two, the clerk snapped and said I could only have one. Gosh.. What does it matter to them?!

I only got 2 on 2 different days. (I would have gotten more, but totally spaced about the deal not going the whole week). I don't think they should beable to tell you what you can and can not buy. I don't really know how to put it into words, but the way I see it, CVS overprices their items and then gives you ECBs back. So really they definately aren't going broke from "giving things away for free". Kind of like a rebate. And it's up to you how you want to spend those ECBs. Heck, maybe you needed 5 Softsoaps and the ECBs just so happened to print out. It's not your fault. I would call corporate and just tell them they are trying to tell you you can't purchase something. Like a previous poster mentioned, maybe you were going to get 5 whether ECBs were going to print or not. But I'm glad you could get some from this deal.

You weren't wrong to get 5, if the ecb's printed when the ad said one, well I figure that's their bad. If the manager apologized though, I would just let it go at that.

Am I reading this right-you were attempting to return 1 of the Softsoaps-that your friend purchased and did not receive the ECB because the promo was over, and the cashier stated that you had purchased numerous bottles previously and had at that time received your ECB making it look like you were getting your ECB and then returning the goods for a full refund? I happen to live near many CVS's and on Tuesday I went into 4 different stores during the day and in each store there were women all attempting to return school supplies that were free after ECB and they all wanted a full refund because it was not on their kids supply lists. There are so many scammers out there these days. Your friend should have returned her own SS immediately after not receiving the ECB and there would not have been any problem. Stores all have the right to limit the # of items that you can buy and a few of the stores near me do limit the free after ECB items so that they are not wiped out at 8:01 am on Sunday morning. |

I think they are wrong. They can't tell you how much of one thing you can buy... I have heard this many times this week. It is outrageous that they don't want to sell their stuff!! The limits are for the ECB not on what can be purchased right? I think it is just wrong how they are treating you and your should call and complain!

CVS changed the limit, not you. I really do wish they would let the stores know, because they really can only go by the ads they have. Lots of deals get upped on limits. I've only CVSed since December but it happens pretty often. You were not in the wrong. I got 4 on my main card and 2 on my sister's. Now when I asked for a rain check they would only give me limit 1 because they went by the ad, but I just got 1 for each card from two different stores. Then I found it at a store on Thursday.

dont feel bad. The limit was upped to 5, whether the folks at CVS knew or not. They are giving us ECBs, so no, they're not going to go out of business, because they were not free! The ECB's will bring us back in, so what's the problem with it all? I got 4, and all on the same card. I dont feel bad. If they wanted it to be one, they would have made the limit, and they didnt.

You have the right to purchase the limit regardless of what the ad said. CVS increased the limit and savy shoppers like ourselves will take advantage, specially if when rolling ECBs and using Q's. The store will get their money back for the Q's you use and you are making the store money since they they are getting refunded by the company that give them the offers to extend to the consumer. The amount of cards you posses is no ones business but your own. I have (2) cards, mine and DH and I never have a problem using his at all and yes, I was able to get (10) Softsoaps for hardly nothing. I went to (2) different stores that very well stocked!!!! I'm quite sure if they could get brand named products for pennies on the dollar they would!

Do you still have your receipts? at the end of the receipt, it'll show limit reached when you actually hit the limit, and in this case, it'll show limit is 5. If I were you, I'll definitely bring that back to show her just to shut her up for wrongly accusing you of having more than one card and apologize for all that crap that came out of her mouth! I've been told by different store supervisors/managers more than once that ECBs are funded by manufacturers, and now with ECBs showing up as CVS MFR coupons on the receipt only confirms that they indeed are funded by manufacturers, just like Wags' RRs! CVS is not losing money on ECBs! it's those $/$$ store coupons that are coming out of CVS' own pocket. You certainly don't need to feel bad for maxing out your limit; it's their register that's spitting out the ECBs at the end of the day! |
