1st thoughtful CVS trip... a little disheartened... tax? I did a more ECB-minded trip last Sunday and it left me kinda bummed. I think it's because I didn't have the psycho low OOP, the tax seems way weird and the CVS brand face-wipes rang up wrong (gotta go back for that adjstmnt). Anyway, can you tell me how you think this trip panned out? 1 Colgate Advanced 4 CG Aqua Smoothers 2 CG WetSlicks 1 CVS face wipes things 1 CVS mouthwash 1 One Touch Ultra Mini 1 Goody's powder $58.81 before q's, $9.30 after q's/ecbs. ECB's printed: $5.00 for meter, $2.00 for Colgate, $5.99 for CG and a $4/20. My subtotal was $5.77 and tax (7.25%) was $3.53, bringing the total to $9.30. Do they tax the BC amount? I just learned like literally 10 minutes ago about doing multiple transactions and immediately rolling over the ECB's. I guess that could have helped with the OOP.

Yes, tax is on pre-coupon price. It stinks! One thing I have learned from here (AFC) is to present your ecbs BEFORE your manu coupons (but after CVS coupons) and it somehow reduces tax. I don't know how or why, but you need to really add things up before you do it this way so that you give the right amount of ecbs. That's how I do it now.

Oh! Thanks for reminding me!!! Good question, where is my Goody ECB? I guess I'll have to ask about that at the store?? How does one get that rectified?

![]() I saw this same suggestion last week and it has really helped me out on bringing my totals down. Its definitely true that you have to know how your deals will pan out to the penny (before tax) in order to shop this way, otherwise, you will be standing there with overage and need to grab something, and if your overage is 3 cents...it sucks to have to add something! |

Some managers will offer a cash refund right there if ECBs do not print. I never tried this myself but have seen many posts on it. The other way is to call the 800 number on the back of your ecb card and discuss it...only their computers cannot see your purchases for about 48 hours, so keep that in mind before you call.

Everytime I go to CVS, I always give my coupons first and then the ECBs. And once I use the ECBs, more tax is taken off. Today my total was $6.98. I gave the cashier a 5.99 ECB and then owed about 54 cents instead of the 99 cents I was expecting.

That is how it works for me too. Can I ask what state you are in? I am in PA and I wonder if it has to do with how each state calculates the tax.
