Manufacturer + Military Coupons Is anyone ever successful at using both a military AND manufacturers coupon on one particular item? When I first began couponing a few months ago I did this a few times (not knowing at the time it was against policy) and had no problem. Since then they've become more conscious of it and only allowed me to use one or the other. Just wondering....

I used to be a cashier at a commissary and to my knowledge doubling up on coupons in that particular way has never been allowed. However, we once found a loop hole in the policy a few years back and realized that if the coupon didn't state 'limit one coupon per item purchased' you could stack as many coupons as it took to cover the price of the product. You should ask your commissary for a copy of their coupon policy to see if you still might be able to do that.

I have always heard that you can't stack military / manuf coupons. Also, they used to let you stack the multiple coupons (if a coupon didn't contain exclusionary language - "only one item", etc) but that changed in the last 6 months. Look at this link, 3rd question down. Hope this helps!

'Dot-Scan Code' bar not necessarily required on printed coupons I read militarymommy's link, and 4th question asks about using internet/home printed coupons. Answer states coupon "must" have a 'dot-scan code' bar (that funny looking black bar, at the top, just below the coupon exp date). I struggled with my commissary for months over this issue. Mfg web site coupons, and those sent via email from a Mfg, do not have a 'dot-scan code' bar. Rather, I have never gotten a Mfg coupon with one. It got to the point I had to go to the store mgr., every time I went, and have her initial every Mfg. coupon without a 'dot-scan code' bar before I could use it. Be Aware of 'dot-scan code' coupons. You will find, virtually, Every Internet Coupon has a 'dot-scan code' bar on it if it is a real and ligitimate coupon printed from a reputable coupon site. If you print a web coupon and it does not have a 'dot-scan code' bar be very careful. If you print a coupon from a Mfg web site, or a Mfg email, or a store coupon (like the Target coupons on AFC, or from the Target site, etc.) it will not have a 'dot-scan code' bar. Mfg and 'store' coupons don't have 'dot-scan code' bars. Store coupons do not apply to the commissary. Commissary computer scan programs are still being updated. If you have a legitimate Mfg. coupon, without the 'dot-scan code' bar, that will not scan/be accepted because of the lack of a 'dot-scan code' bar, call the Mgr. in - explain to her/him that Mfg. coupons do not have these and only internet coupons do. Be patient, but persistent. We all only want what is right. IMHO - corrections, clarifications, whatever . . as always . . are welcome ( 04/11/2008 - UpDate - Correction . . . I may stand corrected on my comment that Mfg coupons do not have "dot-scan code" bars. I just printed a coupon from the JustForMens website tonight and it did have the code bar. However, the printing was done via 'e-centives' and this is a typical internet coupon printer company. Unless I can find a definitive reason otherwise, I stand by what I said - A Mfg direct website will not have a "dot-scan code" bar, only when that Mfg redirects its printing to a website printer. IMHO and, just, FYI. Last edited by FloridaSandman; 04-11-2008 at 12:39 AM. Reason: UpDate - I stand corrected about Mfg coupons and ''dot-scan code" bar

| Actually, the commissary policy states that internet printable coupons have to have EITHER a dot-scan bar-code OR a PIN number - smartsource.com coupons (legitimate cpns linked to through the deca website) do not have a dot-scan, but they have a pin - FYI - thanks! | Same problem - Not 'stacking', just using . . . . Eglin AFB . . . Had Mfg coupon on Dove candy - .50/2 . . . and had Mfg coupon 'BOGO' free. Tried to explain this was Not 'stacking' . . was a reduced price offer by Mfg. They closed the line while I tried to explain this, even with Mgr . . . 'The '.50/2' reduced my price - the BOGO reflected a 'write-in' price that showed the true price I paid for the product. And, with both coupons, DeCA not only got back the price on the BOGO coupon and the '.50/2' . . But, made back a double handeling by accepting both coupons. No-Go. What's-Fair-is-Fair. I will NEVER cheat my commissary!!! But, I will keep insisting on ligitimate acceptance - until they get it right! I can only guess that this is all new to DeCA. In todays economy we all do what we can to save money. DeCA must be overwhelmed with coupons now and just can't keep up. Don't give up the Fight . . Keep trying . . Eventually they'll catch up to the rest of us ardent Coupon Clippers and learn how to handle it. |
