Coupon Acceptance at Meijer Stores (Updated 4/17/12)


Meijer accepts manufacturer, Catalina manufacturer, Meijer, Catalina Meijer, mPerks, internet, and competitor coupons within certain guidelines.

• Coupons must be presented on or before the expiration date

• All coupon terms and conditions must be met and validated by the checkout register

• Customers may use one manufacturer coupon (paper or digital) per item.

• Customers may also combine one manufacturer coupon per item with applicable Meijer coupon(s) where allowed under coupon redemption terms.

• Transactions cannot be broken up to avoid coupon stacking restrictions

• Separate checklanes will not be opened or designated for customers with large coupon orders

• Manufacturer coupons and Catalina manufacturer coupons require the Customer to pay sales tax on the full retail amount

• Meijer, Catalina Meijer, and competitor coupons require the Customer to pay sales tax only on the discounted price

• Meijer will accept coupons from major competitors in each store's trading area, for Grocery and or for Health and Beauty Care items

• Meijer will accept coupons from major competitors in each store's trading area for General Merchandise items only if the competitor's price point is included. The item must be the identical item on the coupon for the match to occur.

• Meijer does not accept competitor coupons for beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, double and triple coupons, clearance, percent off, total trans- action discounts, special promotions, gift card promotions, limited quantity items, mail-in rebate offers, and going out of business sales

• Meijer reserves the right to limit coupon quantities and to determine the order of application of multiple coupons and/or promotions


Competitor ad price match in stores

Meijer will match ads for General Merchandise from major competitors in each store's trading area within certain guidelines:

• The ad must display the competitor's sale price point

• The purchased item must be identical to the item displayed in the ad

• Item must be in-stock at the competitor for ad match to occur

• All ad conditions are met in accordance with its terms

• Meijer does not match competitor ads for Grocery and or Health and Beauty Care items

• Meijer does not accept competitor ads for beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, double or triple coupons, clearance, percent off, total transaction discount, special promotions, gift card promotions, limited quantity items, mail-in rebate offers, and going out of business sales

• Meijer reserves the right to limit quantities and timeframes for any competitor ad match

Oh, crud. I can handle almost all of it, but not being able to use the mPerks with additional coupons is just downright dumb. I won't use the mPerks anymore. I like the competitors coupons... can those be stacked with MQs, you think? Change is bad. Bummer.

I just emailed my contact at corporate to ask for clarification, as this statement is not clear:

"Customers may use up to one manufacturer/Catalina manufacturer coupon with one Meijer/Catalina Meijer coupon per item".

I asked directly if we CAN still combine a MMBQ with a MQ.

When I printed mealbox today it still said you could use 1 mealbox + 1 manufactuerer's per item. Totally dislike the mPerks thing. Although, today I shopped there (this morning before reading this) and I used an mPerks on the yoplait kids yogurt plus a mfc and both came off. Same on Huggies Swimmers.

That one right there "says it all" as to why the changes if you ask me.

My Kroger "accepts competitor coupons" too, so I thought I could use target coupons there, but Kroger wouldn't accept them. They said it needed to scan in the computer...so a Catalina MQ from Giant Eagle would work, but not a Target store coupon.

I can't say from experience at Meijer, but I'm skeptical.

So Mperks are now going to be like Kroger E-coupons...I don't even look at them anymore unless they have a cartbuster event

The one transaction limit is going to make it a lot harder to stock up on good deals too. I typically only do 2 transactions anyway, but it seems quite limiting.

These two rules are going to make it a lot harder to coupon at Meijer...I might have to go to Kroger more.

Was excited about price matching, but then I read "Meijer does not match competitor ads for Grocery and or Health and Beauty Care items;" I rarely buy anything else at Meijer.

All in all, I'm really bummed about the changes, but I'm trying to stay hopeful for some awesome deals regardless

The kroger here wont accept cattalinas with other stores logos or even regular coupons with their logos on them =(

Whatever, Meijer. Recently, an SCO cashier had to enter their code 3 times for my coupon exceptions. I know the 1st was because I exceeded the 4 coupon (not same coupon) threshold. Then again I assume for another coupon threshold that was exceeded. The 3rd one I'm pretty sure is the HamHelper $2 cat coupon from earlier this week. I checked the new HH cat and it's a single bar code 992 coupon (no 2nd barcode containing manufacturer and offer number). Meijer made 992s beep about 6 months ago and I also know that coupons without the 2nd bar code will cause an exception.

What I'm getting at is that your cashier's don't really care. They know your system is fubar and now you're going to add competitor's coupons to the mix?!?

Please someone here post when Meijer has its new coupon policy meeting for cashiers so I know how long to avoid Meijer

Well no more shopping at meijer for me, stacking mperks was the only reason I went there. Anyways kroger is a lot closer to me & doubles $1 coupons so kroger will be getting all my business now!

Please don't generalize. As a Meijer cashier and avid couponer, I do care. That said, I've been a cashier at Meijer for over 2 years and have never been to a "coupon policy meeting". We don't have them. No one ever talks to us about coupons. Ever. If there are updates or new rules or procedures, we are usually required to read a page or two of stuff and sign that we have read it. But nothing about coupons. There was once a letter at our registers that said that cashiers needed to be nicer to coupon users. That was probably 18-20 months ago. Nothing since then. I suspect that you could ask any of the newer cashiers at my store about our coupon policy and they would give you a clueless look. It just isn't something they put much effort into explaining to cashiers. Most of the cashiers are probably vaguely aware of mPerks, but have no real concept of it. Unless the system is somehow updated to disallow combining an mPerk and Mfr coupon on the same item, then the only way to prevent it in the hands of the customer. Granted, a cashier knows when a customer has entered his/her mPerks number, but you'd be hard pressed to find a cashier who is going to go back up through the entire transaction to match up coupons and mPerks to be sure that neither of them are being used simultaneously on an item. We have to maintain a certain rate of scanning. Anything that draws out the checkout process (coupons, price checks, you digging in your purse for a penny or your lost credit card, etc.) affects our scanning rate score. I really don't see any cashiers letting that happen.

HUH? I don't even understand what they're talking about here? Stacking restrictions?? The only time I do multiple transactions is for doubling. I wonder how corporate is defining stacking restrictions.

My gut tells me that the Target store coupons won't scan, however, there is nothing in the policy that says "we will accept mfr Qs from Target, but not store coupons from Target". I will let you know what I find out when I work next.

Regarding the Target store coupons; The Walmart across the street from my Meijer store accepts them. They do not scan it, they use them as a price match. So a $10 item comes along, the Target coupon is $5, that comes off the top like any price match, and you can use a MQ on top of that. Maybe this is what Meijer will end up doing? (I realize not every Walmart does this, however if Meijer starts, the other Walmarts may join in)

Regarding the Mperks; I thought Meijer brought those in to lessen the amount of mealbox paper coupons. So now all the good coupons you won't be able to stack?

There are definitely a few new rules which are vague. Why are they afraid to make clear cut policies? It seems that so many rules, limits, raincheck usage, etc. remain ymmv, the store directors seem to have the final say. It can makes it difficult to shop at a different Meijer, to go in cold and not know the rules of the game.

I like the positiveness!!

I agree that it makes it hard not knowing when you go to another store than your regular one though.

I'm all for ANY coupon policy at any stores, but I've always said that it would be a DREAM if they all just "stuck to" the same policy......like if all Kroger stores kept the same "rules", or all Meijer stores kept the same "rules", but it is never the case, at least for here.

I honestly think that it was for the best for krogers limiting coupons. They were always out of items that were free after coupons. Now they are always stocked when I go ! I never like change but could be for the best this time too ! We shall see =)

I bet it had something to do with people using the self check out to many transactions, but using many mperks. Last week, there was this lady who do like 20 at the self check out and had all items that used a mperk. I was watching her, thi.king, how wrong it was. I hate to think I can no longer do 2 transactions on one trip.
