As all us gardener's know, seed can get costly! sometimes I find a good deal and buy extra and don't need alot of certain seeds such as herbs and flowers. Our family uses a ton of basic vegetable seeds and we buy them by the ounce and scoop at the farmer's coop, so I tohught some of ya'll might want to try out a seed exchnage. I also grow lot's of houseplants and take clippings off them regularly. I have a philodendrum (sp) that is the healthiest I ahve ever seen! The thing is growing like a weed and all my family is tired of my clippings

If we get enough people interested we could get a heck of an exchange started

This sounds great!! Except I don't have anything to exchange and it's snowy here.
If you decide to sell you clippings or seeds - I would be very interested!! Esp. the houseplants!! I love gardening!!! Wish I had more I could contribute and I would join in the exchange!!!

In all seriousness though, I would love to get involved in something like this. I have orange day lillies that I can divide and send and I also have a 'snake' plant (some people call them mother-in-law tongues) that I also need to divide. I'm sure I could figure out a way to send them so they'd still be alive when they get to their destination.

Count me in Id love to do this. We have lots of bulbs, I want to get into seeds this year for herbs and other things. Let me know I have bulbs from slave quarters here in Orange County that are beautiful.

I would join in to. Gots lots of stuff. We can make list of what we have and then the others can see what they need. If I can remember the names of all my stuff.

Sounds fun, but we're in Texas.... I don't know how our climate compares to the rest of ya'lls. I have some bulbs. My amarillas (sp?) are doing great and could use some thinning and I also have a couple of tropicals that I could get some trimmings off of if anyone has the weather that would work. PM me if you want any of these.

I also have lots of these outside that I can take cuttings of. I think they're called sedums.

Looks like we will have a lot of interest! We can work out the kinks after we get an idea of how many want to do this If it's a large number of people, we can start a private forum so we don't have to constantly pm addies and stuff

Faith!! I sooooo wish it was time for planting!!! Seeing your Sedum makes me soooo jealous!!! It's like 30 degrees here.

It's a little warmer than that here...in the 50's. But we've had a lot of rain, with more to come. The ground is just too wet to do anything but pull weeds yet.

I am interested -- I have a blank slate to start with at the new house but have other sources that I can trade -- Plus seeds. I tend to over buy --

Does anyone know if seeds expire? -- I have seeds from several years ago that I can trade but don't want to give them to someone if they won't work.

One way to tell if they're still good is to put a few in a damp paper towel. In a few days to a week, if more than half of them germinate, the seeds are probably still good.
