That is one of my questions, too.

I have never had issues with the register not doubling or tripling coupons. I believe it has to do with the barcode. Some start with 5 & some start with 9. I believe it is the ones that start with 5 (which is most of them) that will pass through regardless of the verbiage on the coupon indicating that it should not be done. I've never seen a cashier pay any attention to that, they just scan them & let the register do its work.

I'm no expert on barcodes though.......seems like LyndaSLP was knowledgeable regarding reading barcodes...

I don't want a major discussion of barcodes on coupons, for alas, that is not good to do on AFC and besides, maybe we shouldn't know all that tricking # stuff.

Anyway, I was just curious as to what Lowes Food shoppers have experienced with "do not double" coupons. I need to know how to plan my spending trip for Grandparents' Day. I will have limited funds and want to max out the coupons available for the basket of goodies for the GPs.

This is one barcode question that is allowed: If the barcode starts with a 5 (very first itty bitty small number usually), then it will double/triple. If it starts with a 9, it will not.

Interesting barcode reading: go to Food Lion, pull some blinkie coupons. Go to HarrisTeeter (or Lowes Foods) and pull the same blinkie coupons. Now compare the barcodes. The ones from FL will all start with 5; the ones from HT or LF will all start with 9. All the other numbers are usually the same on the barcodes... just the first #s will differ.

Unless u have a nit-picking cashier that reads that is says "DO NOT DOUBLE" and has a fit about it of course!!
