| Bladder Infection
I've been battling this thing for over a week now, and I swear I'll never drink cranberry juice again after all I've been downing! DH hit every drugstore in town, along with Target and Walmart last night and every single store was out of Uristat! Every one of them! What the heck...is there some mad outbreak of bladder infections in town? Anyway he picked me up the Walgreen's generic of it so I can give it a whirl before heading to the doc if it doesn't work. People, I am now peeing the freakiest color of bright orangey pink I've ever seen. Seriously, I won't even get dressed today in case I 'dribble' and get that stuff on my clothes - it would definitely stain. I'm a jammy lounger today....in the oldest pair I've got. Have any of you ever taken this bladder stuff that turns your bathroom trips into a psychedelic experience? |

One time - it was hilarious! ![]() But the stuff actually works. I was amazed. It makes life bearable until the antibiotics kick in.

I've been there.... I usually take azo and the first time I took it I freaked out thinking that something was wrong with me cause I peed a redish rust color ... It did help though. If you dress, wear a liner or something cause it definitly stains....Good luck... hope you feel better soon. |

It really freaked me out the first time I 'went' last night after taking the pills! I even made DH come and look hehe But yep...they seem to be working! $5 is better than the $30 I'd pay for a copay going in if I can get rid of it on my own. |

That sucks! I hope it works for you! I've never tried it.I had one last september and again at the beginning of the year that lasted 3 weeks. I had to have a cat scan at the ER in sept. after it refused to clear up on a week of antibiotics. They'd give me something and it would act like it was working then towards the end of the pills my back would start aching again! It was awful. At one point I could barely walk around my apartment. I was like man can this just GO AWAY! I found some of those cransana (i think thats the name of it) cranberry pills at big lots a couple of months ago on that drugstore clearance and I bought all of them I do not wanna go through that again! Hope you are 100% soon! |

Yes my pee turned orange. It's okay, BUT those pills are meant for temporary relief of symtoms, not to treat the infection. You can take them everyday to help ward off any UTI - but once you have one they will not help. Also you can't take the pills before going to the doctor. The UTI test (pee test) turns a certain color to help them determine whats wrong. If your pee is orange they can't read the test. I've learned this the hard way. And while your there getting antibiotics ask for a RX for a yeast infection. UTI's always are treated with antibiotics which always gives me a yeast infection. So ask for that RX too. If you don't get a YI then just don't fill the RX. |

It could also be a kidney infection that went to your bladder. Drink lots of water and no milk. If it has been a week it could be to late for home treatment. Sorry to hear you feel so bad.

And yeah, the reason I figured these would work better, is that a yeast infection always follows after I take antibiotics. So. Now I'm peeing orange, can't take more of the pills to work them out of my system before I can go in, and I'll end up with a yeast infection to boot. not a good week!

Just wait till tomorrow and you'll be good. The more water you drink the quicker you will stop peeing orange. I know what your saying. Rock meet hard place. I get UTI's all the time. Sucks! There is a possible way around it. Ready for this? Take Azo yeat infection pills. For some reason they work on UTI pain too, plus they don't turn your pee any color. So who-who will not be hurting while your waiting for the pee to turn normal colors. |

Thanks for the tip! I wonder if I can talk DH into a drugstore run for me later on. I seriously don't want to go anywhere with this thing. I even wondered for a bit if I had a kidney stone because it's worse than any I've had before. DH was actually putting the moves on me last night....he's lucky he lived through the night for even suggesting it |

![]() ![]() Okay *if* DH goes to another drug store to get yeast infection pills, I'd say you owe him one once everything is settled. |

O.k. girls - this is the real stuff here you're talking about. From the extent of the discomfort and time frame, Maxxme needs to get to a doctor asap. A mild bladder infection that you can treat yourself is one thing. They usually respone nicely. However, repeat mild bladder infections NEED MEDICAL EVALUATION. An infection such as Maxxme is describing could very easily be a combination kidney and bladder infection. If not in the kidney yet, she stands a good chance of it migrating to the kidney. KIDNEY INFECTIONS ARE NOT SOMETHING TO MESS AROUND WITH. They usually require strong antibiotics, bed rest, and lots of time to clear up and not damage the kidney. So take care ladies. I've been there and done that and almost bought the farm.

Azo also makes a urinary tract infection test stick. It will let you know if you have an infection. Also I too hate cranberry juice. Try cranberry pills. You can get them at the vitamin store. I take a type by solary. I have taken 1 a day for the past 9 years and haven't gotten another bladder infection after having 3 in a row. They are a little pricey, but in my opinion well worth it. |

After my issue with kidney stones I took the store brand uristat. Yup I've had that urine.

O.k. More infor for you gals. You can have a bladder infection and it gets o.k. Later you can have the backache, fever, chills of illness and NOT TEST POSITIVE FOR A URINARY INFECTION. But you CAN STILL have a kidney infection. These can be deadly. You are dealing with a major organ and risking losing it. So please, take care of yourselves. I have had these "silent" - don't show on the tests - infections and so have a couple of my daughters. They are not run of the mill, but they do happen. So please, be aware and be certain you follow through on getting the best care available.

Yeah I'm definitely going in to the doc tomorrow. I feel just awful tonight....it's worse than it's ever been and now I feel like barfing and am running a fever. I can't go in until later in the afternoon. DH will be working 1 1/2 hrs away and DS has my car and won't be back until about 3pm. Blah this is not fun.
