Well I just got home from spending 3 hours at the doctors office. Yep - bladder infection and it had started to go into my kidney on my right side. For the first time in decades, I had to drop my drawers for a shot of antibiotics! I also got a prescription for them in pill form. My blood pressure was through the roof so I'm now on meds for those too. Have to go back in a 2-4 weeks to get rechecked and I think they're doing more bloodwork for cholesterol.

YEP! Getting older is a series of "When did that happen" and "Err, what did you say." LOL!

My favorite one is, "Spare tire! I never knew I had a flat....

So sorry you had to go through that, I had suspected the kidney's and I'm glad you went to dr. that can get very painful overnight. Kidney infections are the worst they are so painful.

Nope, just the antibiotic shot, a prescription for more antibiotics as well as for high blood pressure. It was seriously high. Scared me at any rate because it's normally been low for years.

Now there's a big snafu getting my prescription filled. DH was laid off in January and we were on Cobra for 5 months. Everyone seems to be covered for prescriptions but me on paper, while we paid through the nose for all of us. DH went to fill it and ended up calling an 800# and chewing some heinie. Supposedly it will all be straightened out in the morning so I can get my other meds. Thank heavens we're starting with new insurance on 8/1 from his new job.

That shot tho...makes me feel like I got knocked for a loop

I'm glad to hear you are going to the doctor, my dd had symptoms and ignored them she was 16 at the time and she ended up in the hospital. Her fever shot up from 99 to 105 in an hours time. She had a kidney infection and her back had been hurting for a week or so. She thought she had pulled a muscle cheering so she did not say anything. By the time she said anything she was running a fever and feeling like she was going to throw up. What could have been a $20 doc visit ended up being a 3,000.00 hospital bill. I'm with GrannyGodley on this one, you don't want to mess around with your kidney's or bladder.

Ouch! Sorry to hear you have one of those suckers! They are awful. I get recurring ones. Some tips I was given (may be TMI) but since I've religiously followed them I haven't gotten one:
only use Ivory soap down there
after bubble baths and right after "relations" urinate immediately. (Urine is sterile and flushes out the system.)
Cranberry pills can help, but only in some cases; I was told by my doctor that there are 20 different types of bacteria that cause UTI and cranberry juice/pills help w/ maybe 2 of those 20.

Glad you went to the doctor. Had you waited much longer, your kidney could have been much more involved. Keep in mind that any time you have an infection, your bloodpressure can rise. So perhaps it won't be a long-term situation with the med. However, it is wise to get it and your cholesterol checked out.

If you don't get relief pretty soon, I'd call the doctor's office. Please get some extra rest. Sleep is the best cure along with the meds. You can't ignore a kidney infection and get by with it.

I had a really bad infection on Halloween last year. It was all of the sudden. I was walking with my kids and I needed to go potty bad. I finally made it to go and well hardly anything came out and then I had to go at least 3 more times before we left the little function we were at. I left DH with older DS and took myself and baby home and walked 1/2 mile to the house in pain. Had to go again.. my back was hurting. I knew I had a UTI I have had them before. I just thought I will take something for the pain and go to bed and get some rest and go to dr in the morning. Nope couldn't it was so bad that when DH got home i went to Carenow and got the shot you got and antibiotics. Well it came back about a month after that and same scenario went to carenow got the shot this time is left for good I hope! I am glad that you went in and you got checked out!

Oh yes and they told me that I had an infection like it was already a week ongoing, but it had really just started bothering me that day. I was in bad shape.

I came down with a UTI last Easter and took UriCalm, which also turns pee yellowish.

I told DH between the blue of the toilet water, and the brilliant yelloow, and the lovely green when they combined, we had our Easter dye all covered.

The doctor told me that cranberry juice worls for many people as a preventative for UTI's, but once you've got one, it doesn't help.

I'm glad you went to the doctor & hope you are feeling better soon - give yourself 24 hours on the antibiotics & keep hydrated & I bet you will.

I'm glad u went and got it checked! They can be so serious if it spreads. The one I had last fall was horrible and the urge to pee would come at any moment with no notice. I was on my stairs walking down and all of a sudden the pee just came. I couldn't make it up or down to either bathroom before my bladder just let it all go bc it was so weak from the infection! I was horrified. I felt like so me 90 year old lady! (I'm only 28) I was like do I need diapers
