I'm looking for suggestions on a product for my face. I've never really gotten blemishes or broke out on my face until now.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

A loved murad and clean and clear advanced.

I had horrific acne until i got pregnant (18 years old though) and both of those kept it under control.

Occasionally now ill get a break out on my chin and two days of washing with one and my skin is back to normal.

Thanks for the reply I wash my face morning and night with cleanser and still get break outs. So annoying.

I know its super bad!

Right now I have three zits all around my mouth, I think my body is losing it!

The murad spot treatment never worked for me, but right now I'm using burts bees spot treatment and its working.

I dont know if they even sell it anymore, but maybe it might help you too!

This is going to sound crazy but with 5 teenagers under one roof, breakouts were the norm and this is nothing we haven't tried from prescription meds to proactive to over the counter...the two things I can swear by are dial soap for face washing....we just buy the pump and keep it in the bathroom shower...the golden colored one I think it's original...the other thing is something called Panoxyl...this was actually what a dermatologist recommended for one of my DD 16 and it worked...she went from having horrible acne and scars to having flawless skin....another thing we are just now trying for DD 14 is the Clinique Acne Soap...I admit I even use it when she forgets it in the shower and it works wonders..good luck!!

Dial soap as in hand soap?? Does it dry your skin out? I'm willing to try it! Probably cheaper than most facial cleansers

I had really bad breakouts when I was a teenager and my mother swore by oil of olay . When I wasn't too lazy I would wash my face every night and every morning with the facial cleanser and then moisturize. Still works for me

I used to use prescription stuff since my acne was pretty bad but it's much better now. Everyone is different so what works for one person might not work for you. Just make sure you use a cleanser and moisturizer morning and night. Right now, I am using a Sei Bella cleanser and moisturizer from Melaleuca but I also like the Mary Kay Timewise. There are some good ones you can find in the store too but I didn't like the ones I tried as much as these. I also read to not dry your face on the same side of the towel as your hair so you don't get those oils on your face.

I rarely use moisturizer and I know I should, but I'm afraid my face will get oily.

Your face won't get oily with the right moisturizer. When your face is too dry, it will create it's own oils.

I am 48 & I still get the occasional breakout, Super oily skin even now! I use Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial scrub. It gets the oil off without leaving my skin feeling tight & dry.

A good tip that my DD #1's Dr told her when she was a teen is to wash your face at night then take a small drop of the cleanser & dot it on any pimples that are forming. Let it stay on overnight and dry, then wash it off in the morning. It works kind of like a mask and draws out the oil. She did this & has the most beautiful skin.

Dial body wash cleared up my backne as we call it .


I was like sixteen and my skin was amazing. I got a little dry during the winter but nothing unusual.

Yup, the gold colored antibacterial hand soap that comes in the little pumps...I really swear by it as I have seen the difference it made on my daughters face....my oldest DS (20) tried Proactive and it never did anything for him and then he got hooked on my Noxzema (in the blue tub) from a WAGS Black Friday deal 2 years ago and now he won't shower without it in there to cleanse his face with.., it really did help him. Also for moisturizers that wont leave your skin feeling oily, I like the Burts Bee Skin Butter...it just feels soft and smooth, not like you should wipe your face after applying. Good luck

This may sound weird too but I just use Safeguard antibacterial bar soap. It really works great for me! Every now and then I will get a small zit but my face is so clear. My doctor actually recommended it and it really works!

I also have a problem with moisturizers, I hate that my skin gets oily. I also have ocd that manifests with personal hygiene (probably related to my teenage hormones, I used to sweat a lot, we had NO air conditioning or fans and I had horrible face acne )

I bought a little phisoderm moisturizer for like 2$ at biglots like two years ago because my skin had gotten so dry around my mouth it was coming off in chunks like psoriasis.

Used it a few times didnt touch it until recently. Its amazing. It feels a little strange going on (probably because Im not used to it yet) but it dries soft and clean I cant tell I have it.

I use neutrogena oil free acne wash with salicylic acid (for medicinal treatment) and clean and clear morning burst (cuts oils really well and smells great) and it keeps my skin clear and clearasil (sp?) for spot checks.

Great thread! I'm also needing something, and mostly for my back and the scars too. I use tea tree as I try to use all natural products but I need something stronger. I eat good, drink plenty of water, etc and I STILL Have acne and on my back.

I have some of the Dial bodywash that is antibacterial that I got in trial sized. Do you guys think that would be worth a shot?

I really like the Clinique spot treatment but after a while it doesn't seem to work. I am 39 and was wondering if it could also be hormones.

I have adult onset acne at 37 years old. Was told by derm that alot of it is hormonal at this age. Have tried hundreds of things, OTC, home remedy, Rx... The best thing I have ever used is Finacea (Azelaic acid). It is Rx only, but is plant based and the only thing to really use safely during pregnancy. It is typically for rosacea, but in trials cleared up acne as well. Works well to take the redness out and actually faded some of my old acne scars that had darkened like freckles. I have a clear face, chest and back at this point and use it daily.

Let's see - In my teens, Safeguard was recommended by my MD & it worked. I also used Sea Breeze astringent. Sea Breeze also used to have a cream cleanser I liked, but ya know, that was 20 years ago. Hah! In my 20's and early 30's, I used Proactiv & loved it.

I used to have really nice skin (too bad I hadn't realized it then and enjoyed it!) until I turned 25 and had 4 kids in a 5 year time period. Now my skin is gross. I have a very mild case of rosacea which isn't what bothers me. In the summer time my face feels like sandpaper and if I wear any makeup at all I start itching like crazy and it looks like I have eczema on my face. Right now I just get a few zits on my chin and nose, but they hurt if I don't squeeze them (yuck and bad for me I know!) but only puss comes out and then I get scabs. I need to leave them alone I know!
Does anyone know if there is anything that fades the red scars?
I did go to a dermatologist once and he had me try some samples of some stuff, but I don't remember what it was called. He told me to use Cetaphil but I didn't see it really doing anything. I have bumps all over my arms too which drive me crazy so I won't even wear sleeveless shirts. I need to go back to the dermatologist, but I have to have a referral since it has been over 3 years.

OP, let us know what you end up trying and if it works!

Tried Murad & It gave me a rash so i had to take it back to Sephora.

Went back to what I used in my 20s -- Proactiv! I love it & can make my kit any combination I want. It includes moisturizer that I like too. Only $20 every 60 days is an expense I can live with for clean skin. I think you can select a more frequent option too.
I've tried other products & it's just always worked for me & hasnt dried me out.

Have you also considered changing up your makeup routine too? I had to find 2 that worked together (makeup & facewash) before my skin really cleared up. Just another thought.
