| go to doctor or not?
This swine flu thing has me *really* afraid especially when I read about kids the same age as mine that died and had no underlying medical conditions. My 6 year old started complaining Wednesday night of nausea and a headache and that he just "didnt feel good". He did not go to school this morning for same reason. He has a runny nose but no other respiratory symptoms-no cough. He's very lethargic Then suddenly in the middle of the day today while I was working (I work from home) I started getting the same symptoms and actually had to call in sick for the rest of the day because my head was hurting so bad. When I went to pick my other three children up from school, me and my son were both very close to vomiting in the 3 mile drive to the school. I am aching all over, weak, and dizzy. So I wonder should we go to the doctor, or should we just stay home and watch to see if it gets worse? If we do NOT have the flu I dont want to go into the doctor's office full of germs and end up catching it but if we do I dont want to just ignore it especially with it being almost the weekend.

you can call the doctor and tell them your symptoms...if they think it is swine flu, they can prescribe Tamiflu or whatever

I agree, just call the doctor. My brothers two children have been sick with some type of flu it was not H1N1, there are so many bugs going around this year.

Around here is seems like anyone w/the flu is automatically diagnosed with swine flu. It is scary! I hope you all feel better!

Call your doctor, let them know your symptoms and go from there. I work for physicians. There are many, many viruses, and colds unrelated to the flu or H1N1, that can cause the same symptoms. My son was sick a few weeks ago. He started with a cough slight fever, (he has asthma, and prone to pneumonia for some reason), fever went down and was up that night like fevers can do, then the next day the Tylenol just wasn't cutting it and the fever went to 102.7. I then took him to the doctor. They do a nasal swab and it's positive for the flu. So I asked the doctor is it the dreaded H1N1 or regular flu. He said that we have to assume that its H1N1 because its the only one going around. Well he didn't prescribe any meds just some rest and tylenol / motrin alternating. Within 48-72 hrs my son was back on his feet again. IMO my son had a virus. I think there is a massive panic right now. My son has had strep throat / scarlet fever WITHOUT any symptoms of it, no sore throat, just runny nose, cold, achy. So its very hard to tell without talking to or seeing your doctor. Working for doctors I know how busy it can be and how germy the offices are when everyone is there coughing. Doctor offices can tend to get like ERs, crowded with non urgent matters and very infectious. I try some good ole love and care first if that doesn't work then something must be wrong. Good luck to you I hope you guys feel better soon.

IMO taking him to an MD or ER can be bad not only for him, but exposes you to stuff. Even if he has the flu, there are no antibiotics for viral infections. As long as he can keep some fluids down (and plenty of them) and Tylenol for the fever, and rest, not much more can be done unless they get progressively worse. You didn't say how old he is but young children tolerate temps that are higher than what adult and teens can tolerate. I was always told that I should become alarmed if their temp stayed above 102 even with tylenol or advil. I was also told to alternate tylenol and advil for the highest effectiveness. Hope this helps. Be Well !!!

I'm pretty sure it is flu but the symptoms are mild, it may just be a virus going around. I felt it was best to just keep everyone at home and keep an eye on everybody. Thanks for the reponses!

| I think you did the right thing. Doesn't hurt to just wait it out for about 24 hrs and see how things go. If they worsen then a trip to the doctor might be best.
