| How long does it take to start feeling a little better with pnuemonia??
I still feel horrible. I have been on avelox(antibiotic) for 3 full days now. I still have a fever of anywhere between 101.5-102.8. I feel like i have been hit by a semi truck. I am still having problems breathing and when i went to the dr office on Tuesday they had to give me 2 breathing treatments. What do you all think?? Am i trying to rush it or is there a possiblity that the antibiotics aren't working. I am thinking that maybe i need to be rechecked but don't want to waste the money if i should give the antibiotics another day or so.

The effects of pnuemonia can last up to 2 weeks, I would give it at least a few more days before you can expect to feel much better.

If the antibiotic given is adequate to control the infection, patient should start feeling better within the next 24 to 48 hrs. If 72 hrs have passed and you're still having spikes of temperature as high as 102, I suggest you go back to your MD for re-evaluation. He/she may do a C/S (culture and sensitivity) of sputum/discharge to find the best antibiotic to treat the infection. Before you go for follow-up, you may call first and speak to the nurse to know what your MD will say. Either they will increase your antibiotic dose if it is not adequate or they may change it to a different one and just call your pharmacy for your RX. If you continue to have fever, they may ask you to come back for re-check and do the C/S. I hope you feel better.

Well, I decided to go back to the dr today for a recheck. They said my white cell count was higher than when i was in on Tuesday. So they did a urine test. It came back with white cells in it and blood in it. They said they would have to have it cultured to figure out if it is a uti or kidney infection. I have no idea what to think of either as i have never had either. They said that is why my fever is so high and i am still so miserable. So i guess now i just have to wait and see. Thanks for everyones opinion.

I'm glad they did a C/S to make sure they give you the best antibiotic the organism is susceptible to. Get well soon

I hear ya! I've been sick now for like 3 weeks and I still feel like doo do. Hope you feel better asap! Sucks to be sick w/ 2 sick babies!! And abtibiotics only kill bacteria not viruses. Viruses I think have to run their full course. That's why I don't understand a flu "shot" since flu is a virus.

Make sure that you are also taking something for the fever (Tylenol or Motrin). The fever is what makes people feel so awful, with body aches, etc.

I hope you feel better soon. It took me a couple weeks to feel better when I had pneumonia. I had to do breathing treatments 3 times a day along with the antibiotics.
