| Head Lice treatment for Pregnant women?
Ok, just being cautious here, but I had to send a child home with nits yesterday from my classroom. No lice here yet or on any of my other students, but just in case, I wanted to go ahead and ask you guys if you know of any treatment for women who are pregnant. My assistant has extremely long hair and is due in January, so we are freaking just in case she does get them as RID and other brands can cause birth defects |

Angie is definately right...mayo will smother them, then use a metal comb to get the survivors.

Mayo??? Just put it in and then?? Leave it for how long? I'm hoping we don't hafta do this but from the child's teacher last year, its gonna be a recurrent issue we are going to deal with. |

I am not sure for how long, but I have heard it works.

| non toxic lice shampoo http://licefreee.com/ get a $2 coupon here too. I also found this: "There has been much talk about newer therapies for treating resistant lice such as applying full fat mayonnaise, olive oil, Dippity-Do brand styling gel, or Hair Clear 1-2-3 to the hair overnight. This is supposed to suffocate or smother the lice, and while this is probably safe to do, it is messy and probably unnecessary if your are persistent in manually removing lice and nits. To remove vaseline from hair, consider using baby powder and a liquid grease-cutting detergent." See the site www.headlice.org for more info. |

you can also try using creamrinse in your hair.......when you get done shampooing apply an ample amount of rinse to hair and come it out with a medal fine tooth comb, this will have to be done at least once a week....it not only helps to get rid of the lice but help's keep hair manageable....especialy if you have long and or curly hair.

The pharmacy where I live has a homeopathic treatment called Licearrest and after I spent 100+ dollars on crap that would not work. I tried this and it worked very well. This was 3 yrs ago but I think they still make it. Also to keep lice from reinfesting after you get rid of it. Buy Tea tree oil and put a few drops in your shampoo or your can go to Sally's and get some tea tree shampoo its not to spendy. Paul mitchell also makes it. My DH's head breaks out and this also helps to keep that from happening.

Tea Tree Oil is STINKY!!! I bought a conditioning packet (most likely with coupons) and it is a leave in over night. I put 2 of those (double the normal amount) on my daughters hair and put a shower cap over it. I bobby-pinned the cap in place. We left it in over night and then washed and washed the next day! The little comb is a must too! Skipped a night and then repeated ~ to catch any nits that had hatched since (but hopefully before maturity). I have heard mayo works, but is also very greasy and doesn't wash out for days. Lice and roaches have to be the modern day locust! And many schools are getting away from the "no nit" policy! They are deciding that the instructional time is more important than spreading it to the whole class! I had a girl in my class get it about 5 weeks before school ended and she kept coming in to get checked but they kept sending her home! Man, I am inchy just talking about it!

I got a call at work last year saying-I know you've already treated your son, but I wanted to let you know that he still has nits. I hadn't treated him-I had received no info that there was even a lice problem! When my two older sons were both in elementary school (4 years apart) if a child had lice that child was sent home. Not now, and it's a bigger problem than ever. Just my two cents ( now my head is itching just thinking about it) |
