My store will only double the first three like coupons (my store doubles up to 50 cents), they will take more, but only honor them at the face value. Put that and the fact that a lot of the P&G have a limit of four like coupons per transaction and that pretty much determines that I am buying in sets of three or four (or six or eight for the $$/2 MQs) I don't mind it, I think it's pretty reasonable...JMHO |

Our stores do the limit of 3 like Q's also, but they won't even take any other like coupons at face value. But, since it's the way it has been for many years, I'm pretty use to it.

I live in middle Georgia and ours is not 5 like coupons but 5 like items as in I can get 15 toothpaste in one transaction IF 5 are fresh mint, 5 are original, and 5 are cinnamon for example. I find that very weird. We can use as many coupons as we want in one transaction though and there is no limit to how many can double so that is good

My store does limit, total pain. My Kroger limits to 5 like coupons in 1 shopping trip, shopping trip =24 hours, they only double 2 like coupons, rest are taken at face value. Thankfully I have a great relationship with my favorite cashier and the manager who know I don't ever misuse a coupon, shelve clear, & if I ever have a question about a coupon, they know I'll okay it with the manager instead of just trying to sneak it by. They have let me bypass the 5 like coupon rule, most recent example is when I bought 80 bottles of lipton tea and bought them in groups of 20.

The Kroger closest to me limits to 3 like coupons and will double up to 50. The one further down the same road will take 5 like and double up to .99. it seems every store here in Columbus had a different policy.

![]() I carefully planned my trip and I feel like this threw everything off, first is our Ragu pasta sauce is $1.49 after mega instead of $1.31 so thats $1.80 more than I expected right there. Well she scanned my coupons and got to the 6th one and said oh you can only do 5 like coupons, and I was like REALLY? I just did a bunch last night for the knorr pasta and they didnt say a thing. So she was like yeah they werent supposed to. So I was like "oh my gosh now I have to re-do everything, can we take off 5 of the sauce" so she had the guy hand her 5 sauces and then she was like well your doing it for the Mega? and I was like yeah. It just so happened there was a HUGE line behind me so the Cashier just went ahead and did my 10 Ragu coupons together but it got me all frazzled and my transaction didnt go right. I got nervous since people behind me were glaring at me and had forgotten to give her my $5 OYNO I had from last nights final day knorr pasta/rice sides run. (that was totally my fault) I went in last night and got 40 of the Knorr pasta/rice sides did 3 transactions and had no problems using my coupons at all! Also I removed a save $1/2 Ragu Sauce ecoupon from my card and it still deducted it! making my total higher than expected also. so I paid .99 each for two of them instead of the .49 ea. My 2nd transaction was more than i expected but at that point I just wanted to get out of there and get back in my car so I could figure everything out. This is were I figured out I didnt do my $5 cat, and I had lost my receipt for the 2nd transaction somewhere between the store and the car UGH! so I just went home , LOL!That was way too stressful for me I dont know if I will keep couponing there unless I have everything figured out not 1 but 2 different ways!

My Fry's (a Kroger) will only double 3 like coupons, so of course this pretty much forces a person to use only 3 in order to maximize savings. But, I usually do two back to back transactions, which they've never said a word about. So I'm always buying in groups of 3, but getting 6. I've also returned later the same day to do 2 more transactions.

This just seems a bit silly to me. Managers are allowed to make final decisions on policies so they can cater to their specific location. It is ridiculous for anyone to believe the entire chain should have the same exact policy. Why do they limit? To allow other people to get the deal. Some stores want the sales and don't care if you clear the shelves. Take it as it is and work with it. No one has to accept coupons, it is not a law. I mean really, if you don't like the policy find somewhere you like better. "there's no other store in my town", well deal with what you got and be happy you got it or move to a city. Stressing over such things only shortens your life.

I know I was rather shocked when I came across a Kroger store in a small town, while traveling, that only allowed 1 coupon, period, per transaction, that's hard to believe, . At least I asked before I bought, and hey, fewer sales from me for that store. But, whatever.

I understand that completely. The thing that kills me is when someone wants to shove a policy in a manager's face and act like a fool. Many people seem to think they have all these rights when shopping in any store. Many think they can say and do as they please, this is not the case. Managers are charged with protecting their store, assets, employees and other customers. The company has made the decision that this person is capable of making decisions in their best interest. Are the managers always right? Absolutely not. It gets old when I am out shopping and people are trying to push managers around, screaming, making a scene and trying to show them a printed copy of the policy. Most store policies state "store manager's discretion". When the store manager is not available, the assistants make the call in their absence. Just really wishing people would act with some dignity and treat others as they would like to be treated, even if someone is wrong, it is no reason to lower yourself. If you have a bad experience, let the headquarters know, if the manager is out of line they will handle it. As for travel, a quick stop by customer service should help . A lot of people don't understand coupons, less than 10% of shoppers use coupons. Is it a training issue? Perhaps. But remember, everything is open to interpretation. If I were a manager and didn't understand coupons, you certainly wouldn't get anywhere screaming and shoving paper in my face. Whenever a manager says no, I give a simple "ok, someone else will take it" and walk away. Sure, some people count on sales/coupons to make it. That is also understandable, but build a good relationship with the proper attitude with the people in your local stores and you will get much further. If they trust you and see you are calm, they will listen more. When people are wrong they get defensive. You must understand that managers have to know how to read body language. When someone is accused of something they know they didn't do, they say ok, it will come out in the end. If they did do wrong they get defensive. Just trying to give you guys another side of the story. Not out to offend in anyway, just trying to open minds. |

^I understand what your saying rpayne, Im not saying anyone is wrong here its all a matter of opinion. I see things both ways as I am not a "difficult" couponer, in fact im the complete opposit, if it doesn't work take everything off, let me step to the side and re-work my transactions. I get nervous so I never get loud or anything I do have the right to ask questions if I feel the cashier isn't understanding or is just trying to be difficult. I would rather put everything back than yell or get loud over a coupon. This is the reason why I dont coupon at Food Lion, ours here gives waaay to much grief and I refuse to coupon there, simple as that (as if they care) but it saves my sanity. I think when policies are in the middle of changing over and things aren't consistent it is a bit of a pain in the butt, one person says you can, one says you cant. This happened with the whole "no coupons on manager markdowns" thing, there was a sign one say that said you couldn't then a week later the sign was gone and they said you could until further notice. I don't like people who feel entitled either if a store doesn't want to accept whatever it is fine, but they should be consistent, that way I know how to maximize my savings. I have the privilege of shopping at the Commissary also so shopping at Kroger isn't that serious to me but when I have a deal worked out and it doesn't go that way i do get frustrated because I could get my items at the commissary and if my coupons and match ups aren't gonna work then I can get it for the same price or just a little bit more somewhere else.

My Kroger in MI does now abide by the 5 coupons per item per person per day. However I think that's a good rule to prevent shelf clearers. I have a few in my area. I think that it sucks that I can only use 5 per order per day but I only live two miles from 3 different krogers so it's not that bad for me to drive to all three if its a good deal. Plus my hubby will do a transaction if need be.
