Train3 Kroger Prescription Transfer Limit?

Kroger has been having the $25 gift card rx transfer deal off and on and I've gotten at least $200, but my pharmacist doesn't know if there's a limit.

Is there anyone out there that has reached a limit, or know if there is one? An earlier thread reported a verbal $300 per year and I'm picking up 4 today...

Update

Sorry about the train...I'm so NEW! As I was looking through some threads after I posted, this seems to mean something other than I'm a proud dork from a model train lovin' family!

Anyway, I only picked up 3 today since they were out of one. I have $75 credit and she said I'll get $25 more tomorrow when I pick up the last one. I'm beginning to think there is no limit...but maybe tomorrow will be my $300 mark =(

Wait - I'm not sad, I'm happy - I just scored $75 worth of free groceries - WooHoo!!!

I'm glad to know you've gotten so many. I quit filling there because I thought I had hit my limit at $50. Now that I never see RiteAid transfer coupons anymore, and rarely a target one, I'll try Kroger again.

I would definitely go for it again and again! My budget is $100 per week for EVERYTHING, so free groceries are truly a lifesaver these days.

I did get the $25 when I picked up the 4th prescription the next day - I guess I'll just go until I can't (and I promise not to cry if they stop gifting me.)

Last month Ohio passed a law that you can only transfer a prescription 1 time for the life of that prescription. Once it gets transferred then it stays at that pharmacy for the remainder of the refills. So now i doubt we will see many coupons for transfers in my state. It sucks!

My Kroger had a sign printed from Corporate that said $500 per card. If you think you might go over I would recomend a second card.

Here in the Triangle in NC, Kroger has been listing it at the top of their weekly sales fliers periodically - no coupon needed. Sometimes they have clippable coupons in their ad, but not very often.

Kerr includes them in the in-store ads, but Kroger and most other places only put them in the Sunday paper ad.

THAT'S HORRIBLE! I'm just trying to figure out who this benefits?! Our freedom of choice is slowly being taken away.

Did you have to ask to see it or was it posted? Do you remember if it said $500 per year or simply per card?

Even if it's per card, it's reasonable to me. I'm so grateful for the deals I find and hope they don't end

It benefits corporate America. If I lived in Ohio I would be calling and email every Rep. and Senator I had.

Thanks for the info. I will be keeping a close eye out on my state. If I were you I'd keep an eye out for someone to file a class action lawsuit against it. Please keep us posted.

I hope someone sues. That just seems wrong. What if the pharmacy treats me terribly, but I'm stuck there? What if I move and the pharmacy my rx is at doesn't exist in my new location? Very bad law!

Thank you! It must not be much of a financial hit when they give you store inventory. I really hope they continue this promotion as the medical costs to my family are particularly high. Kroger has been good to us.

Sometimes I feel like couponing is like sleuthing...

According to the article in the paper the Ohio Pharmacy Board presented the law to legislature stating all the competition and incentives to transfer has lead to mistakes on the prescriptions. The Board states that limiting the transfers will decrease the risk for mistakes to happen. However, if you are going in and out of state, it will hurt you, etc because of the 1 transfer law. (if you transfer to FL you cannot transfer it back to Ohio because you just used your 1 transfer limit) i wonder if other states will follow????

Yeah...you guys are right....I only hope there'll be a class action law suit. One of my prescription is stuck at the higher priced pharmacy now. Its $14 but $4 at two other pharmacies and I cannot transfer it. Like i said, its stuck at the "$14 pharmacy" now. I have another prescription that costs $245 at this higher priced pharmacy but it costs only $40 at kroger. I'm thankful now that its stuck at Kroger. I would've been screwed. I didn't find out about this law until it was already passed. There was no media coverage that I saw about it.

I smell a rat. IMO an attempt to stifle competition hidden under the guise of good.

Texas allows controlled stubstance prescriptions to be transferred once. Once it's transferred, it's 'stuck' at the new store. That law has been in places for years and years (and years!).

If you have a good relationship with your Doctor, see if your Doctor will call in a new (replacement) prescription to the pharmacy that you want it at, and the Doctor can also call the pharmacy that the prescription is currently at to cancel any additional refills.

I see the law both ways, noting that I am a pharmacist. We had people who would transfer their prescription each month from one company to another to another. Sometimes they would forget *where* the prescription was, and we (the pharmacy staff) were expected to 'track it down' to wherever it had landed last. People don't always remember everything they are taking, and if the bottle that they are using at home isn't the newest one (from wherever it had been filled last), then they may not get it refilled, because they can't find an active script.

We also had one family who would have their Doctor call in prescriptions to one company, and a family member would call us to transfer the prescription oft times *BEFORE* it was called into the other company, so that they could use a transfer coupon. The family would call us, we'd call the other pharmacy, who (more often than not) didn't have the new prescription yet, then we'd have to call the family, the family would call the Doctor back or just wait an hour and call us back and we'd repeat the processes. Several times a day, several days a month. After a couple months, I was just very blunt with the family and told them to have the Doctor's office just call the prescriptions into us, we'd give them the transfer coupon, and it would quit wasting the time of all involved with all the calling around. And yes, I did use that phrasing, because it was at the end of one of those days where I'd called the other pharmacy at least 4 times, because the family kept calling us and asking us if the prescription had been called into the *other* pharmacy. Not calling the other pharmacy to verify before calling us. The other pharmacy didn't like the 'game' anymore than we did.

I have *no* problem with people transferring prescriptions, as long as they can keep up with where they are and what they are. That is where some of the problems come in. Each time the prescription has to be verbally given from one person to another it increases the chances of errors. Think about the exercise in having a line of people, where you say a statement or tell a short story to the person on one end, who tells it to the person next to them, who tells it to the person next to them, and so on. When it gets to the other end of the line, it's usually a way different statement or story.

It's a catch-22 any way you go.

Della

Thanks for the info and perspective from a pharmacist. I think that's great to know! Bless your heart, that "game" does sound very frustrating. I do think that if the main objection to transfers is human error, then the law they pass should be to require transfers to be done elctronically, or verified by more than one person, or some other system to reduce errors, rather than taking away our right to transfer.

I'm in TX and we have prescriptions that we have transferred several times from CVS to wags to kroger back to target , sometimes then CVS from one cvs to another one. No problems doing that. I refill where I am shopping and with gas so $$$ and coupons available ..

Hmmm, Mid-Michigan here and our pharmacy said a limit of 1 per address/household but "this time" let us get 2. We cannot transfer any more and get $25 again is what we were told.

I read the law to say you can only transfer the prescription once a year, not for the lifetime of the prescription. Read here: New law limits the number of times you can transfer a prescription

To get around this, couldn't you get another 'scrip written and have it filled?

Yes, the easiest way around this would be to talk with your prescriber (Dr, NP, PA, etc) about either writing a new prescription or calling in a new prescription.

According to: http://pharmacy.ohio.gov/rules/4729-5-30.pdf prescriptions for Schedule V and dangerous drugs (that are not controlled substances) are only valid for a year from when they are written.

So in theory, yeah, a prescription can only be transferred once in it's 'life', because it only 'lives' for a year from the date written. Whether or not it has enough refills to last that length of time.
