| New Coupon Guidelines or Grumpy Cashier?
I went to Kroger on Saturday with my MIL. She is not into the coupon thing at all, but loves the deals I get. When I told her that I had coupons to get the Steamer veggies cheap she actually asked for some. So I went with her, we picked up 6 bags of steamers and four other things to get our 10 mega sale items. When we get to the register, MIL starts to check out while I try to control my 3 year old from all the candy at the register! When MIL hands the cashier her q's the cashier sighs and then goes on to say that they will be limiting the number of coupons used in a transaction and limiting to one or two IPs per transaction. She then goes on to say "Some man came in the other day and picked up ten bottles of Snuggle then used ten $3 coupons, how ridiculous to come in here and get ten of those at once then use coupons no less!" I didn't say anything in the store (mostly because I wanted out of there with my child!) but once we got in the car, the more I thought about what she said the more it irked me. I ended up e-mailing corp asking for clarification of the policy and making a few points on what this cashier had to say. 1. Doesn't Kroger advertise and entice customers to buy ten of single items with their silly Mega Sales and 10/$10 sales??? If that's not their goal, then why not the $1 sale? 2. It takes me an 1.5-2 hours to do my grocery shopping- I buy cleaning and h&b at my Kroger. I'll be darned if I would spend ALL that time picking out my purchases only to get to the register and be told there is a limit to the number of coupons. Trust me, someone (probably a lot of someones ) would be hearing it!3. Ten bottles of 32 load Snuggle is not an obscene amount, imo. First off, he didn't wipe the shelves clean- this is a very large Kroger we are talking about. Secondly, with a household of six people, I could burn through that in a months time or so. I hate to think that if I went in and picked up ten bottles that I would be bashed for it! As anyone else heard about coupon changes in their Kroger? I hope they aren't going to get all pick. I made it pretty clear in my letter that I do 90% of my shopping at Kroger because of their sales mixed with coupons- but if I can't freely use my coupons I'll take my money back to Wal-Mart. I'll let you ladies know what corp says!

Yeah, that pretty much "chaps my britches" too. Why should she care? Like you, I do @90% of my shopping at Kroger and I'm in there at least 90 min. Thanks for standing up for our couponing rights!! |

I haven't heard that from mine. Mine is actaully pretty coupon friendly. They only double up to 8 of one coupon, but that is about the only rule they have. And good point about if they get mad about someone buying 10 of something then why do they advertise the 10 for $10???? |

Our's will double up to 3 like coupons. I have not had a problem with them. Sounds like a grumpy cashier. It's not coming from her paycheck for crying out loud. And to badmouth a previous customer... Yikes!

I bought a bunch of the Colgate toothbrushes that were on sale for $10/10 last week and half of the coupons went through no problem though the cashier over rode the last part of them. Alana. Proud Housewife to DH, 6 dogs (RIP in Prissy 10/03/09), 23 cats, 3 guinea pigs, 2 fish. |

I was told several months ago at my Kroger that they were limiting IP's to 2 per order. I shop there infrequently so I wasn't really bothered by it.

I am in Texas so usually our Krogers double 3 like and triple 3 like I also have 3 Krogers within 10 minutes of me and at one of them they will only double and triple one like -- they will take all I have but only double and triple one so of course I shop the Other two!! ! I think you had a grump but I am very interested to see what corp says |

I'm in the same area... and never really have any trouble at any of the Kroger stores. I think it all depends on the time of day you shop at each store! I have my favorite cashiers and pretty much know their schedules! I love that!Stinks that you got a grump. The good thing is you could go back tomorrow and have a completely different experience! And I love the misinterpretation of the "2 IPs per transaction" policy. I've actually held that policy in my hand reading it with a Mgr. and it so does not say 2 IPs per transaction! LOL |

I shop in Flint Michigan area and we have multiple Krogers to shop at - 3 I go to on a regular basis - no issue with coupons - Basic guidelines will only double up to 3 like coupons and so on. I have never had any of them state a restriction on IP's - and I use alot of IP's. There is 1 Kroger (of course the one that is closest to me) that I very seldom shop at because they are so picky about the coupons. They exam them with a fine tooth comb and always have a manager come over and view the IP's (but again I have always passed this test - just gets on my nerves) The only explanation I have for this store is they are close to a bad neighborhood and have had some scam issues with people photo coping IP's and stuff like that - so I actually understand the way they act. In short I think you just got a nasty cashier who hates coupons and doesn't relize what her job duties include. And never should they bash another customer cause just like Carla said that could have been her husband!!!!! I bought 6 of the Snuggles at one time a couple of weeks ago and they are almost gone as well. I am very interested to hear the responce you get - I hope she gets a talking to for future customer service - cause she needs to go back to polite school

I have had the same problem at that Kroger. I called corp. and they told me that their policy is that if it is a legitimate coupon and it scans, they take it. There is no limit on the number if IP's you can use. She even mentioned that if this was the case, they would not have links to IP coupons on their website! I always go to 5th Ave Kroger. It's smaller but I have never been given any trouble with coupons at that location. I will go the B'ville for produce and sushi though.

I actually emailed corporate about Krogers coupon policy a month ago and FINALLY got an email back late last week. There is nothing specific about the IP's in here but it does state the store manager can set thier own coupon policies. HTH! The response from Corporate is Below. Dear Ms. Davis: Thank you for contacting Kroger. Individual Kroger store managers have the authority to set coupon policy for their own store. It is best to speak with your local manager in order to get the most up to date coupon policy for their store. The general coupon policy for your area, which is subject to change at any time without notice, is as follows: Double Coupons: Manufacturer coupons of $.60 or less will be "Doubled". Manufacturer coupons over $.61 will be redeemed at face value. Up to Eight (8) coupons will be "Doubled" per Identical or "like" item per shopping visit. Any additional manufacturer coupons for that "like" item will be redeemed at face value. This Does Not apply to "Free", Kroger, Catalina, Retail Food Store coupons, Electronic Coupons on the Kroger Plus Card or items prohibited by law. Pharmacy Coupons: Does accept Competitor Pharmacy coupons. Cannot use LCM or Competitor Coupons in conjunction with the $4 Generic Program. General Coupon Policy: Limit one (1) manufacturer coupon per item purchased. Limit one (1) store coupon per item purchased. One (1) manufacturer and One (1) store coupon can be used on the same item. Coupons cannot be used on "Free" items. Does Not accept coupons that are expired. Amount refunded cannot exceed the cost of the item. The store manager has the right to accept, decline, or limit the use of ANY coupon upon view. The store manager has the right to limit the Quantity of coupons/items used/purchased in a single transaction, by a single customer, or in a single day Customer is responsible for tax on all items even "Free" items. Because the manager has the right to set coupon policy at their store, the above information may not apply to the store at which you shop. If you have any further questions or comments, feel free to contact us again. Sincerely, Jennifer Diggs Consumer Affairs Reference: 7197666 |

So they have a policy, but store managers can choose to abide by it or not? How ridiculous is that!

I have had multiple issues and the only thing I can say, is it depends on the cashier. Some cashiers actually act like you are taking the money out of their pocket! I stopped the manager a couple of weeks ago because I had a cashier that was setting my coupons aside when they wouldn't scan! I asked her why and she said that that was all they could do, just scan them and if they didn't work they couldn't take them. When I asked the manager and he said that was their policy but if I was worried about the "couple cents", he could get that for me. I am seriously re-thinking my Kroger shopping at this point.
