Help Sign Kentucky Coupon tax?!?

Hi! If its in the wrong area let me know, and please move this thread.

Does anyone know if walmarts in kentucky charge you tax on the PRE coupon amount?

I just spent a small fortune at walmart, even though everything I bought had overage, because the tax rate stinks here and because they charge on the pre coupon amount! Its frustrating, I'm new to Tennessee and I hate paying tax.

TIA!

What's funny is even the Wal Marts in Pennsylvania charge tax pre-coupon where every other store doesn't. I think it's a Wal Mart thing.

In KY it depends on what you use the coupons on... Food items don't have a sales tax. Other items are charged 6%ish tax. We must be charged on precoupon amount, I had a total that would have been 0 and we had to pay a few cents.

Tax laws are set by the state...and even WalMart has to follow them

Chicago, il charge 10.25% tax on non food item and food items 2. Something % tax ..i think we are the highest taxes in the U.S.. I might be wrong but it seem like we do..i prefer going to thesuburbans instead save me a couple of cents. They do charge tax on pre coupons trans..

Best of both Worlds here I live on the Louisiana / Texas state line texas doesn't pretax coupons but Louisiana does.. In Louisiana we get double coupons at stores like Kroger market basket and albertsons as where Texas does not double.. So it comes down to what I'm buying as to which state I shop :-)

Atleast you only have to pay sales tax unless they changed it you should get to enjoy the no personal property tax. Where Kentucky taxes everything and some things twice. You pay pre coupon tax on all non food items. You pay state federal and local tax in most places out you paycheck but wait for it in some places at the restaurants you pay state sales tax then you pay a local entertainment tax so that 1.00 hamburger at McD will cost you 1.00 + 6% + 1-3 %

MN taxes pre-coupon as well, but looking over this thread makes me feel better - 6.875% sales tax here

Indiana's pre-coupon too. Often the tax is the most expensive part of my purchase!

I hate buying things in TN! We live in KY (I hate the OTHER taxes here, ) but often travel to TN recreationally. Since TN has no personal income state tax on salaries, they make up for it with their high sales taxes. Sure, residents pay them, but TN is a big tourism state, so they get a lot of out-of-state revenue from it too.
