| Does it Get Less Embarrassing? I drove about 30 minutes to go to a Kmart to get the deal on Scott Paper towels, Tissue, and Huggies. My first transaction was with the TP, and I did it with 2 bags of Knorr / Lipton Pasta Side bags to make sure I hit $30 to get the 10 dollar CRT Back. So I got 5 Packs of 12 rolls of tissue and 2 bags of pasta and the free punch. I handed her my coupons and she stared at the one for the scott tissue for about a minute (felt like forever) and then she told me that she could only use one because of the wording on the coupon. Well the coupon says it allows you to use it towards 1 item purchased, but it does not have the verbiage of "only 4 like coupons" or one like coupon in this case. I pulled out a covergirl coupon and pointed out where it says you can only use 4 like coupons and told her the wording was not like that for scott. She insisted that I couldn't use them, but since this was the main reason I drove over there I asked for a manager. He scanned my coupons and everything was fine. He actually scanned the same coupon 5 times, and the cash register teenage worker handed me back 4 of the coupons and said she didn't need them. I asked her if her register would be off without them and she laughed and said no, so I took my coupons and took my TP to the car. I came back in for my paper towels and diapers but went to a different cashier. I got so embarrassed having to ask for a manager. I'm not use to it. There was no way I was leaving without my cheap paper goods since I drove all that way with kids in tow.. . I had 2 $10 CRTs when I went in I ended up with 3 CRT when I was done...so I did three separate transactions and got socks, shoes and underwear for my boys. I tried to pay with my balance in my account but she said I needed a PIN, I don't know exactly what to do to get a PIN so I can use that money, but I figure it's not going anywhere. I wanted to get rid of the CRTs so I don't have to go in there again for a while. So yeah, Does it get easier ? And I am also wondering about this coupon now, you can use more then 1 in 1 transaction right?Also, on one of my transactions I did, I got $30 worth of the products to get $10 back, and I added in some various things like some brute deodorant and a couple things to get my balance up enough that I could get the $5 Gift Card back. I did not receive a gift card, but I had 5 dollars taken off my balance (which is fine I guess) but I thought I'd get a card to use later. Do you have to tell them you want the card or does it always come off the order your making? I didn't get a Catalina for spending 50 to go towards the meal deal either, but I didn't say anything.

I guess this is how we are being treated now. We are apparently not High Paying customers so we get treated like this just because we use coupons. My guess is, this is going to get worse for us or stay the same. I really don't think its going to get any better. Unless the employees just get tired of being discriminating.

Ugh. Thanks for making me look at my receipts. I see they charged me for 6 of the Scott Tissues. (Above is what I thought I had done) but It looks like I paid for something I didn't bring home. Not really worth the gas to drive out there and try to get it because they prob wouldn't believe me anyway. What do you do when that happens, is there someone that you can call to fix it or am I just out that $6 bucks?

You can always try calling but not sure what your outcome will be. I had this happen twice at cvs now and don't realize it until a day later and then I feel like its too late to go back since you can't really see, unless they look at their store footage.

You likely didn't get your $5 GC because they either didn't scan your card FIRST or they hit subtotal before they were done scanning your items. I had to stop my cashier the other day. She started scanning my stuff and I told her that I needed my card scanned first and she argued with me about it. Finally she took the products off and started over but was VERY snotty in telling me that "Next time, for your INFORMATION, it will work just fine". No, it won't. I obviously know more about your job than you do. Anyway, I would call Kmart c/s about the item that was mistakenly rang up. They will probably send you a GC or something. I don't think it's embarrassing at all but I've been at it for over 5 years. People don't necessarily use coupons because they are cheap or poor, but to make sound financial decisions. It's stupid to pay full price for anything, IMO. I know people who drive luxury cars and live in huge houses that use coupons and run the deals like we do. |

You just get used to it. Don't worry about it. I've had so many cashiers ask me if I'm one of those extreme couponers with an eye roll, and I just smile to myself because they can roll their eyes all they want, but I'm still walking out of the store with 75%+ savings. Who cares what they think? I used to be really shy about it, but now I'm pretty brassy and unapologetic. You have to look out for yourself as a consumer because you know retailers are out to take you for everything they can. Don't be embarrassed, you're outsmarting them.

I have to admit my K-Mart is pretty amazing. The cashiers and service desk are pretty knowledgeable and take care of the customers (a rarity at K-Mart it seems.) But I had the same thing happen where the gift card, once scanned said "denied". She scanned it after all coupons. She called the service desk over and they gave me a $5 gift card. I did a 2nd transaction and didn't think anything of it because they gave me 1 gift card already. She did it the exact same way and the service desk person said it was because I went below $50 after coupons (I thought on no here we go.) But then explained it took $5 off the transaction instead of giving the gift card so I actually got a free $5 gc from the 1st transaction. I reviewed the receipt and lo and behold she was right. I offered to give her the gc back and she said nah, just keep it. Even though the register will still prompt for the gc it will be "denied" if any coupons are scanned to drop you below $50 and it will take the $5 off your order (which may not be a bad thing). Also, I know there is a lot of debate around whether "BOGO" count towards $50 or $30, and over the past 2 weeks I have gotten all my CRT's, CATs, gas coupons, picnic vouchers by buying the bare minimum which includes counting BOGO at full price and counting the "free" items for buying over $25 in my total. Those are all register based and they have all printed fine.

I had two experiences at Kmart last night that could have been considered embarrassing. A good situation and a bad situation. First, I had a new guy cashier. One of my coupons came up "for/amount" and he spazzed out. I told him to just type in the amount and hit enter. He said he hadn't ever seen that and needed to contact c/s to make sure. So he called c/s and they told him exactly what I did. Then I had a coupon that came up with no match. He started to spaz again and I told him to just manually enter it. He didn't know how. I told him exactly how to do it and the ladies behind me started laughing. Then when it worked, they started cheering and clapping. LOL Then I had one more $10 P&G CRT that I decided to just use instead of roll. I got 5 boxes of Quaker cereal (5/$10) and box of granola bars that were supposed to be free. They didn't ring up free. The cashier tried to do a "100% discount" and it took off 10%. She tried to charge me $1.80. Uh, no. So then she took one off and it was now $9.80 and then my CRT wouldn't scan, of course. She tried to tell me that I would just have to pay cash and deal with it at c/s! Uh, no way crazy lady. I told her to call a manager over. He knows me and said he didn't know why it didn't work but he voided her super jacked up transaction and did it right. The people behind me were huffing and puffing and making comments. I told them politely that I was sorry for the hold up but it wasn't my fault that the Kmart registers don't work and that Kmart doesn't train their cashiers. |

I don't like it either when a manager has to come over but still doesn't stop me from asking for one if something is going wrong. And with Kmart, something is usually going wrong LOL. I can do back to back transactions of the same thing and coupons will scan fine and then bam, the same coupons say doesn't match sale when its the exact same items and the exact same coupon so I don't know what happens. But I think it gets easier to deal with the glitches as you go on because it seems there are glitches each and every transaction/trip.
