| No qs at Kmarts that are closing?!?
My Kmart is one of the one that is closing. Everything in the store is 10% off. I tried to by use some coupons the other day and the manager told me I couldn't since everything was already 10% off. The signs said no Kmart q, which would make sense but not MFR!! I tried to rebuttal but they wouldn't let me. Anyone else have this happen?

There is one closing within driving distance of where I live. They told me about a week ago they no longer could accept Kmart coupons but still took manu q's. The manager told me that at some point they would no longer accept manu q's but he didn't know when that would be. He said that corp. was not telling the employees anything. I called them today and the customer service employee told me that the registers are accepting some manu. q's and not others and she didn't know how or why. So if the register didn't take it then it could not be used. Our prices have been at up to 30% off for at least four weeks now though. They vary from 10-30%--each dept is different. They are no longer stocking shelves with new stuff and nothing has a "clearance" price anymore. About two weeks ago if it was on clearance all the sudden it was back to full price? Strange..... Hope this helps |

The one near me put a sign up last week that stated no more coupons would be accepted. As far as the prices-it's 10-30% off in my area and I can still get it cheaper somewhere else!

Haha exactly, the 10% off still doesn't make their prices competitive! I just don't understand why they wouldn't except MFR's. I guess nothing Kmart does makes any sense so I should be surprised. Lol

They probably use a liquidation company to do the sales. Therefore, that company couldn't take coupons since they wouldn't be able to redeem them (the part that says the retailer has to show proof of purchasing sufficient stock to cover the coupons - since KMART bought the stock, the liquidator wouldn't have such proof). There have been closings (of stores - not certain about Kmart particularly, though I think one here was) before where they did take coupons (Even a couple groceries where they continuted to take them, but no longer doubled coupons - still cheaper at 50% off) , but those were probably run by the store chain itself (the Kmart I'm thinking of was a single store closing, not part of any of the mass group closings they've done, so probably not worth hiring a company to do just one)? |

Well, I'm sad that these stores are closing - Kmart has been sort of an 'icon' for a long time. But honestly - their quality has never been great. Stuff has been cheap, not durable. I had hoped when Sears bought them that they would be able to improve the image, but it hasn't worked around here. So, sad but not at all surprised. If you can't compete and offer the consumers what they want/need at a price they're willing to pay, then you can't stay in business. I frankly think the fake 'double coupon' effort they've done with the sywr card didn't help them at all. There are so many *rules* to doubling that you can't actually enjoy shopping. Must buy $25 worth of product before coupon price. Only double up to $1 (for a while it was only 99 cents). Only double four like coupons. And because it's all 'tied' to your card, you can't come back another day to repeat a sale. Crazy. Then there's the fact that at my Kmart store, every checkout person is slow as molasses, every check-out experience has at least one item that won't "scan" right, so you stand for five to ten minutes waiting for the lazy kids to go find a 'price check' - if you can get them to stop talking about their date last weekend or the one coming up this weekend. It's the most lackadasical chain with the laziest employees I've ever shopped at. It's a problem of management and training, IMO, because I find the same issues in every Kmart store within a 50 mile radius of me. That and poor programming of their registers and computers. Basically it all combines to make the whole chain seem disorganized and unreliable. And I say all this having *worked* there for five years in college. I was a cashier. It was so *frustrating* and *embarrassing* to stand there when a sale item didn't ring right and your angry customer was waiting and waiting for a supervisor to do the price check. Meanwhile, Management just told us to 'chat' and 'be friendly' with the impatient customer. "If your customers are your friends, they'll come back and shop with you." BS. Customers don't want to make friends with cashiers. Customers want to get in, get their stuff and get out as quickly as possible! Good bye, Kmart. Ugh. Sorry for the rant. :p
