Jewel Coupon Policy and Rain Checks:

I just received an email from Jewel corporate offices regarding the use of coupons and rainchecks.

The Jewel Corporate policy states the following:

*Valid coupons are accepted if the customer has purchased the necessary merchandise.
*Coupons must be redeemed at the time of purchase of the specific product. Coupons may not be redeemed after the transaction has completed.
*Expired coupons are not accepted.
*Coupons cannot be converted to cash under any circumstances.

We do accept competitor coupons as long the requirements are met that are stated on the coupon.

Jewel DOES NOT accept internet coupons containing the following conditions:

a. ‘Free’ product offers that do not require a purchase
b. Redemption value exceeds $5.00
c. Absence of UPC bar code

We do not double coupons at this time.

Our Rain Check Policy simply reads effective on 3/18/2008.

If for any reason, we run out of an advertised sale item, we will be happy to offer you a rain check. Please contact an associate for assistance.

Please note: Rain Checks do have a 30 days expiration date.
Please note: Rain Checks can not be issued for advertised item(s) that our ad specified: "While Supplies Last".

Some stores will issue coupons that state "redeemable only at Walgreens" or they will have coupons for their store in their sales ad. When a store accepts competitor coupons, it means, the store will accept a coupon, even if the coupon clearly states it's for another store. Just another way to get you to shop at their store!

Does that make sense?

Some Jewels allow it, even though the corporate policy states they don't. It is really up to the management at the store....

Jewel accepts catalinas from other stores. I take my Walgreens RRs for $$ off my next order and use them at Jewel. IT is a much better use of my Walgreens RRs.

This isn't taking a competitor's coupon so much as it is accepting a manufacturer coupon...they accept ALL manufacturer coupons assuming you bought the proper item as dictated on the coupon. The coupon needs to say manufacturer coupon and include a redemption address so they can get their $$.

Coupons can be combined with Avenu to make much better savings.

2 coupons can be used in a B1G1 free sale...one per item. Some of the best savings at Jewel can be found this way.

I wish my jewel would take the Wags catalina coupons. I have tried several times with different cashiers. Next time I will try self check out!!! I know they will work there!

Even that differs from one store to the next for me and sometimes from one day to the next...... the catalinas scan fine at self check, but the (usually) high coupon amount triggers "Assistance Needed"..... even though I was able to use RR's at a certain Jewel with no problem in the past, the last time I needed "assistance", I was told that RR's are only accepted if they are for a particular item, not a general purchase type. That definitely wasn't the rule the last time I used them......

Different store/different situation..... I used an expired Jewel catalina at self check and of course, needed "assistance"...... when CS assisted me and realized the cat was expired, she told me they don't accept expired Jewel cats ....... even though they had the week before.... she told me that if a coupon scans, they take it, but if anything prompts them to LOOK at it and figure out that it's expired, they are supposed to reject it..... even their own cats.... I suggested that it had scanned just fine, which it had...... it only needed "looking at" because it was high value coupon at self check..... I'm pretty sure the unexpired ones do that too! Alas, the assistance caused her to look at it and have to reject it...... she suggested I use them in regular check out instead....... which I've been doing lately..... where they scan just fine....... and the cashier has no problem with it.....

Funny thing about the self check out. The past probably 10 times I went to self check out, I get the dreaded "Coupon approval" message. I know I am not doing anything wrong and they just come over and press a few buttons and I am on my way!! Just hate when that happens.

The last transaction I did the cashier came over and said "you didn't do anything wrong, you just have a lot of coupons!!"

It is their policy to do so. I have a letter from corp I can post when I have more time...on the run right now.

ALL Jewel's are supposed to accept them. It is in the catalina coupon acceptance policy.


Go to Jewel.com and email corp and ask for their policy on catalinas...they have a form letter back that states it as well. You can take that with you when you shop

Thanks for this info. I'm looking to take advantage of the upcoming Huggies sale at Walgreens and wasn't sure what to do with the RR's. Think I'd have a problem using $10 RR's at Jewel?

You MAY get questioned...but it is their policy to accept them. Uscan may be the way to go.

If they ask tell them "it is a manufacturer's coupon and corporate says you take them".

I know you've mentioned that Dominick's is supposed to take them too..... I've asked at my local Dominick's more than once and CS says NO, they do NOT take other stores catalinas.... is there a letter that says otherwise for Dominick's also???

BTW, uscanning other stores' cats didn't work for me at one Jewel, because they were high value and since I needed "assistance", CS opened the box to look at them and told me no, they only take other stores cats if they're for a specific item...... so for me, it's a case of knowing which Jewel is ok with which cats.... sheesh.....

I have had no issues with using other stores cats at my jewel or dominicks. I shop Gurnee and grayslake only though.

It is Jewels policy to accept them. On your next shopping order as well as specfic items. If you plan to have more RRs to use at Jewel you may need to consider wrting corp.

Same for your Dominicks. I don't have a letter, I called when Gurnee was acting up and customer support called them. I also met with the store manager and the store gave less problems in general after that.

Our Jewel (in Bloomington, IL) accepts expireds (she said "probably about up to a month") but will not accept competitor's coupons. HTH!

No they don't accept store coupons. The accept manufacturer coupons with other stores names on them. The target.com coupons aren't manufacturer coupons.
