I picked up a bag of Valley Fresh chicken today at Jewel, flipped it over, and noticed the "best by" date was two days ago. After placing every package in my cart (nine of them), I went to the service desk and explained that I'd buy them if they gave me a good price. Originally $3.79, they gave them to me for $1.50 each. Now I wish I'd counter-offered $1.00 per bag. Oh, well. I used a $10 OYNSO coupon, and spent only $3.67 for nine bags of chicken! Woo-Hoo!!!

nice work, and good idea! they were probaby happy that you were offering to take them off their instead of complaining that they were outdated. I'll have to copy your idea should I ever run into that situation!

OMG! I can't believe you did that....how are you going to eat that much chicken in days? Especially frozen chicken (if it is frozen) if it is past the BEST BY date that is old old chicken.

Best by date=date to EAT by (they recommend EATING them 2 days ago).
Sell by date=date to sell by...still has days to use.

Be careful eating that. I won't buy anything with old dates,i don't care how cheap it is. Even it's good but i think it looks or tastes strange,i won't eat it.

I am ok with somethings....canned or bottled stuff...but NOT meats. YIKES!

Most everything is good past the "best by" date. I figure hermetically (or whatever) sealed chicken is no different. We eat lots of chicken, so it won't last all that long.

If I didn't die in childhood from eating contaminated home-canned food, or moldy food with the mold cut off, I'm probably safe with the chicken. My mom served those foods because sometimes the money ran out before payday arrived. She did what she had to do to keep the family fed.
