At my HyVee (I am guessing it is this way at all of them) if it rings up the wrong price you get the item free. I have tried many times to just pay the correct price but my store is adamant that it is the store policy that you get it free. I just got a $10 bag of cat food free Saturday because it rang up the not sale price of $14. Its worth looking at before you leave the store.

Things ring up wrong more than you might think, too! I've gotten things free lots of times this way, although I usually have to ask them about the policy if I find an incorrect price. (But they're more than happy to refund the full price once I mention it.)

About a month ago I went to our local Hy-Vee and purchased some small tubes of gel frosting for my DD's birthday cake. The shelf said .99 but they rang up 1.98. I mentioned it to the cashier, and he went back and looked and said that I was right, it scanned wrong. I asked him if that meant that I would get the item for free, and he looked at me like I was from another planet or something! He called over the shift supervisor (who didn't even look old enough to have a job), and he also said that "I have never heard of that policy". It was around 9:00pm and all of the adults must've gone home already. I wasn't about to argue to get 3/.99 items for free, but I knew I was right. My mom has worked at the Hy-Vee in a diff. town for 23 years! I still love Hy-Vee and will not grocery shop anywhere else!!
