| Gardening...
This is our first year to plant anything other than flowers and decorative plants. We are doing Big Boy Tomatoes and Grape Tomatoes. My four year old is trying his hand at strawberries...if he doesn't kill them with his overzealousness! My brother is doing a family garden this year, so we will be doing green beans, peppers, etc up there. What are you growing?? Laura

Went to the farmers market here, got all sorts of herbs, thyme, oregano, lemon grass, 2 types of tomatoes, going this week for more tomato, pepper plants, it has been unpredictable weather here and my grandma Ruby always said don't plant anything in Arkansas until after Mother's Day. I was going to plant beans, squash, sunflowers today but DD woke up at 5:15 a.m. throwing up, may not be able to work in the garden today.

We have several varieties of tomatoes: Big Boy, Pink, etc., yellow & zucchini squash, all sorts of peppers. We need to plant seeds for green beans, canteloupe, and carrots yet (I think it's too late for the carrots though??). I have my herbs on the deck - so far just spearmint and lemon balm - I love making tea with them.

| Wow...
I am impressed! You guys are very ambitious! It's frustrating at times that we live in the neighborhood that we do. I would love to have a real garden, but there is not a lot of space and that just not how things are done here. LOL I hid the tomatoes on the side of the house! ![]() Laura

This is what I have in the ground: Beans: Half Runner Beans Kentucky Blue Lakes tomato's: Roma's Whopper's Early Girl Celebrity Tom's yellow Tom's red To plant still: 4 variety's of Old Tyme Tomato's Jalapeno Peppers Bell Peppers Zucchini Yellow Squash Anything else I will supplement from the local Farmers Market as we have a very small yard with little room. I just wanted to plant these to have when I want to run outside and grab something fresh for dinner. I plan on doing a lot of canning this year and have already gotten started on 16 pints of homemade strawberry jam. I am waiting on some more strawberries from SC this weekend to freeze for use in recipes. I also may plant an herb pot in one of my really big containers by the deck....we shall see. I have Rosemary and Chives already planted in my flower beds by my front door and they have come back just fine this year. |

![]() I am growing cold set canadian tomatoes, carrots, green beans, arugula,of course squash. some spices and hopefully the deer won't be too hungry, so we can have a bit. I am hiding my tomatoes on the porch in pots. I will plant this weekend, cause here in Susanville it can freeze easy. We have a short growing season. Can't wait to get it started. Gerney's had spend $50.00 and receive $25.00 back so I did that. The seeds have came but not the tomatoes. Soon I hope. I think you can still do that deal. I hope the plants are good. |
