My husband and I bought two of the hanging planters for tomatoes - the topsy turvey - and we have had great luck with our tomatoes. I am going to use them this year for squash and egg plant. Hope you all have a great crop.

I've seen these at walmart for 4.97 but I hesitated to buy as I did not know how they would do.. Has anyone bought these from walmart? How did they do? Not the one described above but pots |

We bought both the Topsy Turvy and the hanging strawberries from QVC last year...the tomatoes grew huge..my dogs would always try and get the ones on the bottoms though..the strawberries on the other hand only yielded about 5 strawberries..I'm not sure why...the strawberry one though was a five tiered planter thingy that you planted the strawberry plants they sent you on each hole of the tier and then when you watered, the water would flow down the tiers...I would go with the Topsy Turvy Tomatoes planters..they are great, hold the soil and water really well and really do yeild tons of tomatoes..HTH

I bought a topsy turvy last year. I had two plants in it. I started it after my tomato plants in the garden by 2 weeks. It grew really big, but not one tomato. I read it was because of the heat out here. I think I will try again, but will have some in the ground just in case. The plant seemed like it was trying to grow up also.

Strawberries take a couple years to yield a crop. The best thing I've found for using the hanging strawberry baskets, is to plant 24-30 plants in the ground. Dig them up in the spring IF you want to use them for the hanging baskets. Don't expect much of a crop if you have first year plants. ![]() Tomatoes on the other hand, seem to do really well in the topsy turvy containers. You can buy "Patio Tomatoes' at Home Depot or Lowes, they are about $5/plant, but they have a 1 year guarentee plus the type of plant is great for pots or the upside down containers. I reccomend trying it for fun, but plant some in the ground as well. If you live in a townhouse or apartment, buy the huge flower pots, fill the bottom half with 20 oz. pop bottles, then put the dirt on top of the pop bottles so you don't use 1 40 lb. bag of dirt in each pot. Make sure you fill the pop bottles about half way, with water so they don't float up to the top when you water the plants. If it rains a lot, and you're pop bottles are floating, your plant won't survive |

| No, they look like they are in a flower pot..I also think they are just cherry tomatoes..I didn't look that close because I didn't think they would work and didn't want to waste the money.

I have the huge pots and tried growing tomatoes in them last year but it didn't work...I didn't use pop bottles on the bottom... We don't use glass bottles here...Any other suggestion as to what might work in the bottom of one of these containers? |

Ice, I use the 20 oz plastic bottles or the 1 liter dasani bottles. Sorry for the confusion ![]() Do you use miracle grow? I saw an awesome idea in a catalog a few years ago. A man planted about 12 varieties of tomatoes, mostly heirloom, in huge flower pots and lined his sidewalk with them. He alternated the colors of the tomatoes so from a distance it looked more like a fancy flower display! It was so cool! Did you use a tomato stake in the middle of the pot, to help stabalize the plant as it grows? I've grown tomatoes in pots for years, and always have great luck! Try the grape or cherry size tomato, they are perfect for pot growing |
