If by chance you have loose 9V batteries in there, please read this: Fire Danger of 9 Volt Batteries Stored Inappropriately In Kitchen Junk Drawers - Thorndale Fire Company

I had no idea 9V batteries were a fire hazard until my husband switched all our smoke alarm batteries recently then put all the old ones in a Ziploc bag and put the bag on his desk and walked away. Fortunately he went back in a few minutes later b/c he forgot something and noticed the bag was melting! He picked it up and it was really hot. I googled 9v battery storage and found this and other similar articles. Now I'll say that many of the articles have technical errors, but the main message is to be careful about how you store 9v batteries!

Keep them separated from each other so the contacts can't touch and so they can't contact any metal. 9 Volt Batteries a Fire Hazard | Division of Fire Safety | NH Department of Safety I can't believe I was never aware of this before that happened.

I stripped a few of the diabetes meters of batteries. Had them in a little bin together and noticed they got really hot. So I used clear tape to keep the contacts separate.

Here's the before: I started by removing things that didn't need to be in there. The sports equipment is now in the garage. The curtains are now in a box in the basement (they belong to the landlord). The vacuum is also now in the basement since there is no carpet on the main level. The kids' large coats are now on hooks in the garage. My wedding dress & formals stay simply because I don't have a better place right now. Then I determined what I would really like to have in there. Coats, of course, but I also used Dollar Tree bins for all our gloves, hats, and scarves. I also wanted swim gear in there because we are doing swim lessons & lots of playtime at the YMCA pool. I also wanted my cameras, tripod, & camcorder, since I'm always wanting them on the way out the door to a sports game and such. There's also an umbrella and a small stick vac. I'd still like to use more of the vertical space, but it's better for now. After: More to come in next post...

Well, here's mine. I'm in love with Alex. This is my make-up collection. My hubby put the drawer together.

DH and I reorganized most of our garage. He's had stuff from his old office stored in there for years. We discarded a bunch of stuff and I listed a lot of the remaining items on Craigslist. We had 2 nice storage cabinets that were blocked by junk. Now I can get to them and plan to store oversized, infrequently used pots and pans in them.
Love the photos of the organization ideas!

Wow. Thanks for the great pics and ideas. I feel overwhelmed sometimes with the demands of the house. It is great to see one problem tackled at a time. So far this year, I have been decluttering the closets and the bathrooms.

I've had them for years, but I'm pretty sure you can get them at Walmart, Target, Lowe's, and Home Depot. They are with closet organization stuff. The cubbies are smaller than the 12x12 fabric bins, but the Dollar Tree containers fit perfectly.
