Hi everyone. Can you believe we're almost at the end of 2012???

Time to reset our "declutter counters" for 2013!

"Is your life feeling a bit cluttered? Looking for incentive to get rid of things that are dragging you down? "

The goal is to toss or donate 2013 items over the next 12 months. Sound daunting? Well, look at it this way:

it breaks down to:
- 167 items per month
- 38 items per week
- or ONLY 5 items per day!

Let's make 2013 the year to clean up our lives!

I wasn't very good about keeping track last year, but I will keep track this year. But even though I didn't keep a running tally, I did clean out ALOT, more than ever before.

I saw your 2012 challenge, and thought it was a good idea... but never did anything about it.

This is definitely on my list this year! It HAS to be... clutter has taken over our home!

For anyone looking for a way to keep track, I used the Paperless Lite app (free) to keep track until I had time to total it up and subtract from the goal, then I'd just delete the lines of the items I already accounted for. Any list app will do though.

Okay, I know it isn't 2013 yet, but I got a head start last night.

I packed up 12 books, and about 30 other items for Goodwill.
Then, I went through and tossed three trash bags of items that are essentially garbage, like expired foods. Plus a case of expired dog food I didn't even know we had! (I almost cried-I would have rather donated it.)

So total, I'm estimating 125 items.

Does anyone do paperbackswap.com? I have stacks of books I'd like to get rid of and thought it might be worth trying that.

I've been cleaning out like crazy this week but I feel like I'm cheating if I start counting yet????

And another question, if I repurpose something, say take a few worn out pairs of jeans and make a quilt does that count???

Two good questions! For the first, I'd say if it motivates you to start then Yes, I'd start counting now. For the second, I'd say Yes if the item you make is actually used. B/c you went from a pair of unused jeans taking up space to an item that is not just taking up space. I don't know - maybe that is cheating and it's just the crafter in me WANTING that to be the answer!

I'm in, first time at it! This is great timing too because I've been saying that we need a bigger house since ours has run out of storage space. My husband says we need less stuff. He may be right.

When we moved here, March will be 10 years, I thought the house was huge. Compared to our old house it is but somehow, we've manged to make it feel small too.

I love paperbackswap! It's a great, frugal way to get books you really want and at the same time let go of those you're done with.

Ok I'm throwing caution to the wind and starting early.

Thrown out 2 pairs of socks that were starting to get holey, a blanket that was supposed to be a cat bed but it's ugly, he can sleep on something else and two old pieces of makeup that had no business being around anymore.

This might sound silly, but this thread did inspire me. I'm tackling the computer room. Today, I boxed up 26 books, and gathered two bags of trash from the computer room. (Papers, junk stuff) I also cleaned out my dresser top, which resulted in a pile of papers being thrown out. Then, I helped my son box up his comics/books-around 75.

Today's total, a low-ball estimate would be 150. We had over 100 in books alone. That brings me to 275 items.

And bonus-1/2 price bookstore bought our books! We only made $32.00, but it was worth it to geth them out of the house.
