I unexpectedly cleaned up my pantry yesterday. Two ideas I wanted to share: I used a dry erase marker to label my canisters so they can be easily cleaned off and used for other things later. I made a "baking basket" for all those little bottles/containers that get lost in the pantry like vanilla extract, sprinkles, cocoa powder, etc. Now I can just grab the whole basket out, use what I need, and put it all back without going "WHERE IS THE VANILLA?!?"

Good ideas, Brie! ![]() I just wiped down all of the surfaces in my kitchen and the appliances. It is sooo much easier to keep things clean now that they are decluttered and organized! ![]()

Hey y'all! Susanne (pchef3) had to step away as forum leader, and I have taken over. We are going to continue to use this thread to discuss ORGANIZING KITCHENS & DINING ROOMS. There is no timeline associated with the discussion.

How do you store your plastic containers and lids? Currently my cupboards are overflowing with a mess of lids and bottoms. I live in a small apartment. I need a space saving solution.

My recommendation is to have a full matching set. I have the Rubbermaids with the white lids. The full set came with round, square, & rectangular shapes in different sizes. They are all nested inside each other as much as possible and sitting on their lids with the lids upside down. In my old house, they were in two deep drawers. In this house, they are in a spinning corner cabinet. I will post a pic later.

If a matching set is not possible then I have an idea from my rv days. Get all plastic out and clean. Match to lids. Stack bottoms of like items place their tops to the side. Toss any cracked or missing lids or extra lids. Take the largest container and put all the lids in that one. Put your container of lids and bottoms away. For a while I used a plastic bag for the lids and closed it flat with a rubber band. Now I stack stuff and put the larger lids underneath and the smaller lids on top - I only stack two different kinds in one stack. I have several stacks in the drawer (large sq lid, large sq container, sm sq container, sm lid = one stack). HTH

Have y'all heard of the smart carousel? I paid $15 for 5 shelves and 40 pockets. They are meant for shoes but on the package there are a few other ideas like toy storage, winter accesories, etc. I'm using mine for all kinds of stuff! 40 pockets! Examples are: (it's in the bathroom) I put the girls brushes and hair clips in the bottom. Each girl has 2 pockets to organize there hair accesories. Then the each have a shelf for misc. items. I highly recommend these. They spin 360 too! Great investment. |

I know this thread is probably too old but I couldn't help saying hi. I hope I will find some more great organization tips here in the future! Quote:
This one isn't possible for us. We haven't the extra to spend yet on getting matching storage containers. Worse, my mom is the queen of saving used containers so we have a lot of mismatched sizes, like butter containers vs pie tins. Quote:
![]() ![]() I'm thinking if I'm going to try to start any sort of stockpile, it's time for reorganization! |
