Question (San Antonio)HEB shoppers... have a couple questions :)

Hey there!

I was wondering if HEB accepts 2 coupons for B1G1 items.

Also,... I read HEB does not accept a ManuQpon and StoreQpon together. Is it a YMMV thing or is it a total no go.

How are y'all down in San Antonio, TX feel about HEB?
I read it's basically the only Grocery Store available (except for Walmart)
That's kinda scary! No one who doubles coupons (like Kroger)????

I looked at HEB's weekly flier and have to admit the prices are fairly low but I still wonder if I can stay within my budget when having JUST this store available.

The thing with HEB is that their "store" coupons are really manufacturer coupons. They say they offer store coupons but I've been shopping there for years and have never seen one and I usually check them. On the corner of their yellow coupons, you'll see an M or an S. M means it's a manufactuer coupon and S means store coupon.

Also, when they run BOGO deals, they'll offer a coupon to get the deal. I don't have a picture but I found this and this is all I've ever seen them offer on BOGOs. http://www.kdhnews.com/images/story/31808_co2.jpg (The coupon says Buy Betty Crocker Tuna Helper, Get HCF Chunk Light Tuna FREE!)
Because those are usually manufacturer coupons, you couldn't use 2 of your own coupons, just 1 (and then combine it with the Yellow coupon).

For example, the BirdsEye Voila's were buy one get one free, recently. They were 3.64. I was able to use 1) .35 coupon and then the HEB BOGO coupon and paid 3.29 for 2 Voila meals.

I don't live in San Antonio, I live in Corpus Christi but we have about 12 HEB's here and 1 Super Walmart. We also have Sun Harvest, which is a small health foods store.
I have a love/hate thing for HEB. They do tons for our community and their products are quality products but they have no competition here and they know it. And I just hate those darn yellow coupons.

I'm here in san antonio HEB does have some of the lowest prices, but they will not let you use two qs on anything and that is at every HEB. Plus they will only take IP if they scan otherwise its a no go. We have HEB, Target, WalMart, and La Fiesta ( not my fave choice). Then there is CVS, Walgreens. Thats about it. However, in san antonio we have 15 targets within 20 miles. Plus everywhere there is a target there is also a walmart and a walgreens. In a 5 mile radius of where I live I have 3 Targets 3 walmarts and 4 walgreens, 2 CVS. So when big deals come I can hit all of them with one or two transactions and the cashiers don't ever mind because to them I'm not excessive. When I do have a day when the cashiers or managers are not at their best I just say thanks and ask for my Q and drive down the street to the next one there and get my goodies. As for HEB usually I end up using there ad to price match elsewhere. And they usually have pretty good tearpads for other products. They had a huge stack for 1/1 dove haircare and i used those at walgreens this past week for the RR deal mad a killing. I hope this helps and for those in san antonio hi guys!!!

I live in Buda, TX (just outside of Austin). We have HEB, Walmart, Target, Walgreens and CVS. I work in Austin and always shop at Randalls. I know that HEB has low prices but like the other person said...I hate their Yellow coupons. Even with Randalls higher prices, with my coupons and their doubling, things always come out cheaper. I do get majority of my produce from the HEB plus in Kyle, TX. Their produce section is great.

I've had to have the managers come over when I've tried to check out because the cashier can't get the coupons to "go through." When they did their Wanchai Ferry specials a few weeks back the cashiers acted like they didn't know what to do.

My cousin told me last week she went to Customer Service at her HEB in Marble Falls when her coupons wouldn't go through and they gave her CASH for her qs. She showed her receipt, explained that the qs didn't work and that the cashier couldn't force them through and they gave her the coupon value - $5 in cash!

I had NEVER heard of that before!

yeah, heb kinda stinks for couponing. the "normal" price is cheaper than kroger for some items, about the same for others. but with no doubling or tripling, I spend a lot more. my grocery bill definietly went up when we moved here. how I miss kroger...

your best best for saving $$ here is at target. by using a target q and manu q. but my closest supertarget is 10 miles away, so it is a bit of a hassle to go.

wal-mart prices are ok, but again, no doubling/tripling.

heb has meal deals and "buy this, get that" free coupons in the stores, which can be ok if you would use all the products. I usually get all the free items and donate the items I know I won't use to the food bank.

You can save more

The trick at HEB is to use a coupon on the combo locos (BOGO) or on the Meal deals, buy XY and get ABC free. For example, if the combo loco is buy a Mayo and get a free loaf of bread, you can use a manufacture coupon on the Mayo plus the yellow store coupon that gives you the second item free.

You can't use the coupon on the item you are getting free, but you can use a coupon on the item you need to buy to get the second item free. I hope this makes sense.

HEB has WONDERFUL produce, and there are a few items I get there I can't get anywhere else (decent chopped meat, decent paper plates, HFCS-free apple butter and sprouted english muffins, a few other things).

I do the rest of my grocery shopping at Kroger, which I know you don't have.

And those stinkin' yellow coupons are from the debbil!
