I was in HT Wednesday and found a whole bunch of Colgate Clearanced out at $1.15. I had a coupon for $0.75 off which would have doubled. So, I grabbed them all, 17! WHen I got to the register the employee said they cant take coupons for clearanced items. I told them that they had taken them before and he said that they werent supposed to.

Well, I had also grabbed 2 post-its in the same clearance bin and had a coupon for those too and he took that one!

So, is there somehere in there policy I can print out and take to them to verify that they can take coupons? Or should I e-mail HT and ask them directly? Anyone have this issue before?

I would ask HT Customer Service directly. They are very nice and helpful. I will say that I have bought plenty of things on clearance and used coupons and never had a problem. The only issue is if they printed a new markdown tag with the price on the product. Those tags ring up as "grocery markdown." So, if you are using coupons for those items, the register beeps since it can't find the specific item and the cashier has to get an override. This happened to me recently with some Beechnut cereal. It was labeled as a grocery markdown at .99 and I used $1 coupons. The cashier got the override and there was not a problem.

Well, I decided to send an e-mail through the site. I figured I would get an e-mail apology or something like that. Well, yesterday the store Manager CALLED me! He apologized and told me that the cashier made a mistake and that I could use coupons on clearance items! He then said that the Colgate was gone and that he was giving me $15 in gift cards!!! He then said he could have someone bring them by my house! I told him I would just pick them up. I was totally impressed! So it all worked out!

I had this same experience a couple of weeks ago with the clearanced toothpaste/toothbrushes. They had to override all my coupons. I have one HT that I dred going to because for one they will not allow but one coupon on the bogo items and I know that is their policy that is why I go to the one that does allow, evidently the other store does not follow their own store policy but that is fine with me and secondly they scrutinize when you come in with a lot of coupons, like you are doing something wrong.

I hate it when we are treated badly just because we have coupons, too! Please remember to only post and using coupons according to the HT policy, though.
