That's an interesting thought, Chrissi. That could be possible. Neither my friend or I have used our Harris Teeter cards in years, so we could be off their mailing list.
Whatever is the reason, it seems Harris Teeter doesn't want us to know.

I suspect that the mailings are demographic based. Not necessarily on distance but on the neighborhood income. Many businesses use income as a major criteria for their target audience. Yes, I know that my money spends just as well as that of someone who has 4 times my income, but HT is an upscale store, and they want to spend their advertising dollars to attract customers who will buy the higher priced merchandise. If I were running a business, I would want the same thing. It is not about me as an individual, but on my neighborhood as a statistic.

These decisions are made on the corporate level, and your local employees are not going to be aware of the reasons. That is probably why you can't get a good answer in the store.

Naturally, all of the above is my opinion. I am not privy to Harris Teeter marketing decisions. But I do know just enough about the subject to have an idea how things work. Which is generally the opposite of how I WANT them to work.

I get a $5 off of $40 and I live less than 10 miles from my local store. But we also live near a higher income area so maybe that's it. I have never heard of a $20 off. Would love to get one of those...

I got the mailer. It was for $20/$50 order for 4 weeks in a row. It's valid only at a few HT - I assumed it was b/c a new Loews Foods opened across the street from mine (Wesley Chapel) - so they probably only target cardholders in that area - that's my guess! But it has been good!

I got the $10 off $50 coupons for 4 weeks corp. mailed out I think because of the new HT in Maple Lawn or it could be I emailed corp wanting to know when the new store would open. But I have also received $1.00 off Oreos, $2 off Bertolli , and today I got one for american greeting card1 free with 2 purchase ,. they seem very nice at the new store.

The nice CS guy told me tonight that HT was concentrating on moving North (not South) as I'd hoped. He said they've recently opened stores in Maryland & withdrew from the Florida market since Publix owns it. I want HT in New Orleans when I return...!

Just a thought, too...I wonder if that demographic has anything to do with customers who live closer to a different chain, perhaps a certain one, than the Harris Teeter?

Me personally, I've never gotten even so much as a flyer in the mail or the local newspaper!! It pisses me off actually.

I live within a mile of HT, FL, and Kroger. I've never had any problems with Kroger since I started using q's 2 months ago. However, HT has been a super headache since day one. I've had 2 different cashiers steal q's, had one come down the isle where I was shopping and ask for a rice coupon (I gave it to her hoping for good relations) and then she steals coupons. After getting home I checked my reciept and sure enough...CS and manager basically said without proof they couldn't do anything. My last trip was better but they really have to have an awesome deal on for me to go. And no, I've never recieved any mailings from them ever. I've lived here 3 years.
