| So tired of HT and being lied to! venting
I need to vent and get this out. I'm so frustrated at HT. I'm so tired of Harris Teeter not knowing what they are doing! Originally I was told that they wouldn't be super doubling only tripling. Only to be told by you nice people that they are doing both. Shouldn't the manager have known that? Also, I read the coupon policy 3 times before going to the store (since it was my first time there). I had 3 of each item since I had three coupons. The policy says you can buy three like items, but when I tried to use three coupons the cashier wouldn't let me. I told her to ask the manager. The manager came over, I told her what my problem was, she went and read the posted policy and came back and said "it says two like items" BS!!!! So i made the cashier take all of my third items off and paid and left. I looked at the signs on my way out and the signs all say three! The manager lied to me! I went back the next day. I had three coupons for three of the same thing again. This time I came prepared with my print out of the policy. Again I was told "no only two" and "that must be a typo". I was so furious. Then I got my Sunday paper. Went back to rack up some more great triples while I could. I had my husband and kids with me and they are impatient. I used the self checkout. I handed all of my coupons to the lady. My total should have been next to nothing. Amongst other coupons, I had two candy bar coupons and two of the warm delights coupons. She rang up my coupons and I knew the total still wasn't right so I was waiting for her to finish. She yells over to me. "Ma'am, I rang up your coupons you can pay now" I knew it wasn't right but I sucked up what the total was so I could view my receipt. She didn't scan my candy bar coupon and she didn't scan the warm delights coupon! My husband of course didn't care about the 3 extra dollars but I did. He didn't want to wait around or be embarrassed when I talk to the manager so we left. I feel better about getting that out. For the future what should I have done in the situation about not being able to use three coupons? And is using the self checkout a bad idea? I just hate leaving my kids on the other side of the checkout stand when I use a cashier. My toddler gets into trouble over there and the infant is usually crying!! HELP ME! |

Wow - I'm really sorry you had such a frustrating trip! I know that feeling can stick with you for a while. What store were you shopping? Because I believe there was only one store - Suffolk, VA - doing triples last week. The rest were doing super doubles. About using 2 or 3 coupons for like items... If you're not using an IP, you should be able to buy 3 like items and use 3 of the same coupon. If you are using an IP, they will only take 2 of the same IP per transaction. There have recently been a lot of misinterpretations about these rules by the cashiers and managers. It's crazy that they would have tried to say it was a typo in the online policy. What I would do is contact corporate, explain how you feel they misinterpreted the policy about 2 vs 3 coupons. I'd also tell then that 3 of your coupons were not scanned but since you were having so much trouble already you didn't know how to explain it to customer service to get your refund. Make sure they know which store it is so they can contact the mgr and make sure they get straightened out on the policy. I don't use self-checkout so I don't know how accurate they are about coupons. I try to look for a checkout that doesn't have the next lane open so that after they empty my cart, I can slide the cart w/DD in it around to my side and not be in anyone's way since the next lane is empty. That way I have her next to me and I can see the screen when they scan my coupons.

Self checkout works okay for Q's. I only used s/c this time and the lady had to scan all the Q's. I walked up to her desk and watched her closely to make sure that they were all scanned. I feel your frustration b/c I have the prob of people not abiding by the same policies! Contacting HT corp may help, but the 2 times I have contacted them, they say a manager will call - AND THEY NEVER DO!!! So maybe it will help, maybe it won't!!

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. My HTs are great, I never have trouble using coupons, and some of the managers are hot (LOL). I have had problems at other stores (stupid walmart especially), and I did the same thing that you did. I just made them take every single thing off my order that they wouldn't let me use my coupons on, which totally ticked off the cashier, backed up the line, and my kids ran around and irritated her even more. Ha. If they aren't going to follow the rules, then they can deal with the voids and restocks. Don't be embarrassed, and don't worry about your kids... it's not your fault that some people are morons and don't understand their jobs. If your coupons don't ring up, then you can always return the item(s) or ask the cashier for the coupons back or go to CS and see if they will give you $ back. Actually- I'm remembering now- at HT last week, I noticed that one of my coupons didn't ring up, so I just went to customer service, and the CS person gave me $2 cash- he was totally cool about it. Contacting corporate is a good idea too, since they really do need to know that their people are acting like jerks and not applying corp. policies. You could also start off your trip at the CS desk with the printed coupon policy, and ask them how their store applies corporate policies. That way you will know what to expect at the check out as you shop. Plus, what are they going to say? I'm sorry ma'am our store does not follow corporate policies? Hope that helps! Good Luck! |

You can talk to the General Manager of the store which is the store manager and if that doesn't work, call corporate and give them the store managers name and tell them that you talked to that person. Your complaint will get heard when you start calling names!!!

I have had great success in going to Harris Teeter - Home and clicking on customer service. I have filed several complaints. Each time, someone has e-mailed within a day or two. They are very professional. extremely nice, and will do whatever is needed to remedy the sitaution. One week, they put a $3 credit on my card. At checkout, I was $3 less than expected, but hey that is always good news! Even though you are angry about the situation (and rightfully so!), be very kind to customer service. They will try to correct the situation for you. As a suggestion, take a copy of the corporate policy with you. If a cashier tells you that you can only use 2 coupons when it clearly says 3, smile, whip out the policy, show it to her and then stand there smiling. Say nothing else. I have done that twice this week. Both times, they called the manager. I showed the policy, acted like I knew exactly what I was talking about, and they did an over ride. I think the key is to act as though you know what you are talking about.....but in a calm and kind way. If the line is long behind you, they will want to get through the order to move things along. Many times, they will over ride just to speed things up. I hope that you have a better experience next time. Remember, always look for the cashier who is smiling and cutting up with customers. They will be the one to let things ride. |

If your printed copy of the online coupon policy didn't work, then you should have walked the manager to the front door and showed him the one that is posted at the entrance. Were any of your coupons for B1G1 items?????? |

I honestly don't think the managers are trying to be mean, but they've misinterpreted the policy and are certain they're right. No one likes being told they're wrong, especially after they've made sure all of their employees are following their policy. I've only had a few irritating experiences like this, so after I've asked CS in the store and gotten nowhere, I email Corporate when I get home. Even if I argued with the mgr in the store, sometimes I think they just give in to what you want to keep good relations, but that means you're going to have the same problem next time. Whenever I've contacted Corp, they have followed up with the store and I haven't hit the same problem twice. However, I emailed Corp on Sunday about the 20 coupon limit problem (should be 20 doubles, not 20 total) and haven't heard back yet.

Yes, please let corporate know. I am so sick of the misinterpretations of their policy. It gets really annoying when they try to make up their own rules.

That was awful! I would be so mad I would spit!! Ugh! I stopped using the self check out when I'm using lots of qs because I find that I can watch the screen and the cashier much more carefully when I'm at a regular register. You could go over and look over the shoulder of the person scanning and watch the screen in the self check out, but I find I can concentrate better, miss fewer things, and keep track of it all better in a regular check out. Where you using IP coupons? |

I would def. Call or email corp. And let them know the manger said that the coupon policy must be a typo and how nasty they were and that you were not happy and what you did. That was stupid of the manager

I would call corp. and talk to them. Ask them to mail you a copy of their coupon policy since your store won't accept the one you printed online. When I go to uscan I stand by the cashier and watch them scan my coupons that way I know they got them all.

I certainly understand how easy it is to get flustered and frustrated, especially with the children and husband in tow! However, if you know you are right, please don't give up so easily. With a little practice, you will learn to calmly and tactfully stand your ground Next time, nicely ask the person who's giving you incorrect information to walk over to the posted policy (usually at the cust. svc. desk) with you and show you where they got their information "so that you can make sure you understand for the future." If the person giving you a hard time is not the store manager, nicely ask to speak to the store manager (not the customer service or "front end" manager; the store manager). If they are not available for some reason, get their name so that you can call them directly later. Unless it's the store manager who's being an arse, always give him/her the opportunity to correct the problem before going to corporate. Also, all of your coupons not being scanned requires an immediate trip to cust. svc. Otherwise, how will you ever prove you had the coupons to begin with? Hope you don't give up completely on HT because you'll be missing a lot of great deals. Good luck!!
