| A big BOO-HISS! to HT. Anyone else had this happen?
I made a trip to HT yesterday, box of coupons in hand to stock up on all the BOGO deals in this area. When I got to the checkout, the cashier started sorting all of my coupons, and informed me I could not use 2 coupons with a BOGOF deal. In my memory (whether it was accurate or not...LOL), the items used to ring at half price, and they have always allowed me to use 2 coupons. But, they showed me the coupon policy, and it clearly states only 1 coupon for a BOGO purchase. I had a copy of the policy myself, and never saw it, but it was there. The manager told me corporate is trying to get all stores consistent, and they should have never allowed me to use 2 coupons on BOGO items in the past. Now, the register is ringing both items full price, and then removing one, instead of charging 1/2 price. Just a 'heads up' incase you see that at your store. According to the manager here, it should.

They said I couldn't use BOGO free coupon with their BOGO free sales. Is that true? For the triples sale can't I use 1 coupon that will triple for free item and still get the other free too? TIA |

Does this mean that if we only buy one that it will not be half price now???

angelabates1, I don't see anything like that in their coupon policy online. If you purchase an item, and get one free, you should be able to triple the coupon on the one item purchased, at least where I live. They just wouldn't allow me to use 2 coupons for that transaction. I'm not sure about the BOGO coupon with the BOGO sale. I didn't see anything in their policy addressing that either, and I haven't tried it. berkeleysmommy, I'm not sure how that will show on receipts from now on. On my receipt yesterday, it rang up full price, and then showed the VIC deduction, so in essence, the right price should show up if you just purchase 1. But, since I had 3 of each thing (that's the most coupons they'll double at once for identical items), it made my order a total mess. The manager told me they'd just had a meeting that morning, because corporate was trying to make sure all stores were consistent with coupon acceptance. So, I ended up having to put a lot of groceries back, as well as pay quite a bit more for what I kept than what I had in the past. |

Alright, okay, don't panic - there are two factors that impact whether or not you can use two coupons on a BOGO item: 1) if you end up with a "coupon police" cashier 2) if the items ring up as two separate charges or not. According to HT policy, if the purchase rings up as two separate charges, i.e. 2 popsicles at .99 each = $1.98 instead of 2 popsicles for $1.98, then you should be able to use two coupons. Check your sales flyer, because lately more items have been "2 for $" instead of BOGO where cost of 2 items rings up separately. Sorry this happened to you, but don't think that this is an everyday occurrence. Try a different cashier and pay attention to how the items are ringing up.

So where does this leave us for triples? Are BOGO items ringing up 1/2 price or 1 at full price and 1 free? This really makes a difference as to whether or not items are good deals. usually I split BOGO free items up into separate transaction, but if they aren't ringing up 1/2 price this won't help.

OK, thanks for trying to calm me down. :-) There's no doubt I had a 'coupon police' cashier, so I'll try another the next time. But, the coupon policy does state that only one coupon can be used on BOGO items. There are many sites out there that are promoting using 2 coupons on BOGO items, and HT doesn't permit it. Of course, you can get a cashier that doesn't know, which has been the case with me ever since I started doing this (2 months ago). But, I've been told all cashiers there know it now. Just didn't realize it until this happened to me yesterday. As I said, it could be a YMMV situation too.

This is happening at my store too. They have never enforced the BOGO coupon rule until a few weeks ago. During the last triples, they put signs up on all of the registers stating that 2 coupons would no longer be accepted on BOGO items. The cashiers also pulled out any coupons in the stack that I had 2 of and checked to see if the items were BOGO. Since then, it has been consistent across the board no matter what cashier I have. One of my favorite cashiers told me that they would be getting very strict with the policy since triples are occuring once a month now. I just go buy one item at a time. Half of the item's price is deducted at the bottom of the receipt, so you can still use a coupon and get the deal. It just takes multiple trips to the store for me now!

aidan&logansmommy, that's a good thing to do. I think I'll do the same...just buy one each time. It takes multiple trips, but hey, the groceries are free, or almost! Guess I need to update my profile. We live very close! I'm in the W-S area. :-)

So is it a better deal to just get one item of the BOGO free if you are tripling a coupon and can get it free or can you triple a coupon and get both items free

angelabates, I don't know. Frankly, I was so taken aback when it happened yesterday, my thought pattern just went crazy. I would have been better off to leave the entire order and come back another time probably. This just shakes my liking for HT immensely. Lowes also doubles, so I may use them more than I have. It just added salt to the wound when the cashier said 'I'm sorry it confused you ma'am', on the way out. I mean she could have said 'I'm sorry for the confusion', 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience', anything...but 'I'm sorry it confused you'?!?! I'm trying to stay calm, but it was quite embarrassing really. :-)

I've emailed HT this morning asking if bogo sale items are still ringing up at 1/2 price or will I have to buy 2 to get the sale price. I haven't heard back yet, but if/when I do, I'll post it here. I did not mention using coupons at all b/c I was afraid they'd just send me the coupon policy and ignore the rest of the question.

If you're ever in doubt of whether a single item will ring half price, just check the print ad. It usually does say under the BOGO items 'item rings at half price'. Like pretty much always. Yes they do have an official rule that states that they will only take 1 coupon per BOGO pair, but you can still just purchase the 1 item at half price and use 1 coupon. You could also purchase 3 items and use 2 coupons, or purchase 5 items and use 3 coupons when items are BOGO and still be following the rules. (b/c if you use 2 coupons w/ 3 items, you're using 1 on the first 'pair' of items and then 1 on the single 3rd item..... and if you're using 3 coupons on 5 items you are using 1 for the first pair, 1 for the second pair, and then 1 for the last single item). Sometimes it is to your advantage to purchase only 1 bogo item w/ 1 coupon, and sometimes it is better to purchase 3 w/ 2 coupons or 5 w/ 3 coupons. It just depends on how the math is working with that particular deal, since BOGO items often allow some 'overage' to roll to help cover the next identical item (like with the grillmates).

My store has always only allowed one coupon on a BOGO, and that's the reason I make multiple trips on sale items. Got Hellmans and Breyers today, they rang up full price, then at the bottom of my receipt (before Q's) the VIC printed out. So at my store, you can still get 1 sale item at half price. They just had to go and make it more confusing.

The email response I got today confirmed that items on bogo will ring up at half price. For B2G3 sales, you must buy all 5. So nothing has changed, except that they seem to be cracking down on using more than one coupon on bogo sales. I'm crossing my fingers that my store will still allow it, but I'm guessing they're going to start following the policy, too.

I really think they're going to be paying CLOSE attention this triple week. Yesturday I went in there and had a problem with a Q and it was one of those DND-5. I had 3 of the same Q's and 2 doubled and the third didn't, well when I pointed it out, the cashier and manager both were like it says DND... I told them that I had 2 other Q's exactly alike and they doubled ... they pretty much told me oh well, it's only .55 ... its getting to a point where its like they are hurting their customers feelings more than helping by tripling once a month. ... it really makes me like Lowes Foods ... only if they would triple ...

This happened to me with the Kraft dsg too. I just made the cashier remove one and ring it up separately so I could get the deal. If they start not charging half price for each one and make you buy two to get the deal this is going to tick me off. I am on a real tight budget and I am getting fed up with prices going up and up and the stores getting stricter and stricter about q's. How are we all gonna make it?

I'm not liking HT much these days since tripling at Bloom, they don't have "all those rules". I will only be getting a few things I really want/need at HT, since I'm only allowed 2 IP;s PER DAY (ridiculous IMO)!! That is why Bloom is my new favorite store cause I can get almost the same items listed for this triples with no "like" item limits and no "IP" limits My days are numbered at HT!

I generally shop at Peacehaven or Oldtown, because they're closer to me. But, a new one is opening in Pfafftown this week. :-)

I cannot wait for the Pffaftown HT to open! Do you know if they are going to have any Grand Opening specials...? Other stores have opened with triples... I was hoping that maybe we would get lucky! |
