Puzzled by your comment. I didn't think anyone on this thread was trying to 'circumvent' the rules.

What does this mean: "We do not issue rainchecks for coupon items that may be out of stock..." What is a "coupon item"?

"Coupon Items Out of Stock"

This simply means that if you have a coupon for something and they are out of stock on that item you can not get a raincheck for that item that would allow you to redeem the coupon at a later date. Most commonly this comes up when they have triple coupons, some people buy more than they need then they expect to get rainchecks when it's all gone and still get the triple coupon value with the raincheck.

The policy doesn't list a limit on non-doubling coupons. But since they're BOGO, they'll only let you use one coupon per bogo pair (hate that rule!). You can buy one at a time and use one coupon for each item.

Be careful to hand over your doubling coupons first b/c once the register counts 20 coupons, it stops doubling even if the first 20 weren't doubles. I didn't know that until mrsfloyd posted it here a month or so ago and I've probably messed it up a few times. Grrr.

ETA - on bogo sale they will ring up at half price, but the cashiers seem to have been really trained to spot the bogo sales items and reject the second coupon per bogo pair. The register will accept it, so it depends on how aware your cashier is. Mine have always let you use 2 per pair until about a month ago.

A customer Service Rep at my local store (Lawndale Drive, in Greensboro, NC) mentioned that their store has been having problems with Internet coupons being abused (photocopies, etc) and said they are planning on limiting the use of IP Q's to just 2 per daily transaction.

Has anyone else heard this, or is this just done on a store-by-store basis? Thanks!

This is what the HT Coupon Policy states (taken from their website): "With the purchase of two like manufacturer’s products, we accept two internet coupons, per store, per day. "

I translate that to mean two IP per product.

I was told this morning by a friendly cashier that we could only use 2 internet coupons per transaction and that they won't double. What a bummer. I was wondering why I had two coupons that didn't doouble yesterday morning.

I just wanted to say thanks for this post. While I live in FL, we used to live in Charlotte, NC and still visit. When we are there, HT is usually where I shop, so it's helpful to see their store policies.

I have to admit I am TOTALLY annoyed right now. I had read the original updated rules, but am just so angry that they won't accept q's from competitors. I mean I can understand not accepting internet q's but why not accept peelies?!? Ugh. And the "customer service" girl was such a jerk when "explaining" aka shoving her paper in my face and saying "since you know everything about coupons, maybe you might want to memorize THAT!"

competitor catalinas

Does HT honor catalinas printed at a competitor - Food Lion - that state they are "Manufacturer's Coupons"?

Can I use 4 Kelloggs Mini Wheat $1 coupons if I buy 4 boxes of the cereal at BOGO (when it rings at 1/2 price?)

I went to HT today and didn't try out the catalina from FL. However, I did use the 4 Kelloggs Mini Wheat coupons $1/1 and they all four doubled! So the BOGO each had $1 off of them since I got 4 boxes of cereal.

HT Coupon policy - # visits/BOGO items

Here are some additional comments to the coupon policy, coming from a cashier @ HT:
-The computer does track how many coupons are used per day per vic card. Once you reach your limit of 20 coupons it will stop doubling or tripling.

-When an item is buy one get one free, you may only use one coupon for every two items (If the coupon is off two items, you must buy four of that item to be able to use the coupon. This is because you are technically paying for one in a set.) The item only rings up half price if you buy one; when you buy two, one of those items comes off as free.

-Split orders are also not allowed.

Harris Teeter - Your Neighborhood Food Market

The bold printed information are my comments.

1. We accept coupons that have not passed their expiration date for use; we can not accept any expired coupons. Now according to the manager at my HT (another AFC member found her HT mgr in agreement): HT will take expired coupons as long as the expiration date is within their 'work week'. Their 'work week' = Wed to Tues. So, if you have a coupon that expires on Monday, you could use it on Tues (key note: WITH MGR APPROVAL) but you could NOT use it on Wed.

2. We accept only one manufacturer coupon per purchased item

3. We do not accept coupons on items not purchased

4. Coupons must be presented at time of purchase; we can not return money for coupons not used

5. Coupons presented and items purchased must match exactly; size, variety, flavor, etc.

6. We uphold any purchase stipulations set forth by product manufacturer

7. We accept only one coupon for Buy One Get one Free items; we can not accept a coupon for a product that is received free. This policy keeps changing Now each item rings up 1/2 price. It is YMMV whether your HT will accept a coupon for each item with little to no hassle.

8. We accept coupons for items only of equal or more value; we don’t give cash back. If the face value of your coupon is worth MORE than the regular price of an item, the register will beep and cashier will need a manager to enter coupon manually. And most likely, if the cashier/manager is paying attention, the value they enter into the computer will NOT be the coupon's value BUT the item's value.

9. Sales tax is paid by customer at full retail.

10. We accept 20 double coupons per day per household with VIC card; all others redeemed at face value. The register/computer system will acknowledge your VIC card 5 times per day. It does NOT track coupons. So, technically you can make 4-5 trips into HT on one day and use (20) coupons each time.

11. We double manufacturer coupons up to face value of .99; with total amount not to exceed $1.98 or entire retail of item; whichever is less. Harris Teeter does NOT give overage on a coupons There used to be overage. The computer systems were changed and now there is no more overages.

12. We double up to three identical items with manufacturer coupon; additional coupons for like item will be honored at face value. Now this is truly a YMMV. Also HOW this rule is interpreted is YMMV. I had one asst mgr tell me that I could use (6) identical Suave 0.50/1 coupons as long as my (6) Suave product were not all identical. See, the wording does NOT say "3 identical coupons". It says, "3 identical items". And to this asst mgr: (3) Suave shampoos were different from (3) Suave conditioners. Again: YMMV The register will double/triple up to 20 coupons per transaction -- whether all 20 are different or the same. The register has not been programmed with this '3 like coupon' rule. Also, please notice that this rule refers to the doubling (or tripling) of coupons -- it does not refer to those coupons accepted at FACE VALUE ($1+). Nowhere in HT policy do they say anything about accepting many identical coupons that don't double/triple.

13. We accept “cents off” internet coupons

14. No “FREE” product internet coupons are accepted

15. We accept up to two (2) internet coupons per manufacturer product, per store visit. Another rule with tricky wording. See, I do NOT read that as "We ONLY accept TWO internet coupons per order." I read that as "TWO internet coupons per mfr product." Thus, if have (2) internet Dial bodywash coupons AND (2) internet Charmin coupons; then I can use all (4) coupons during one visit. Yes, another YMMV, but I have had HT managers agree with me.

16. We do not accept internet coupons that do not appear to be originals or that won’t scan

17. Internet coupons that state 'not subject to doubling or tripling' will be handled as such Of course we all know that if that coupon barcode starts with a '5', it will double/triple UNLESS the cashier catches it and enters it manually.

I hope this is helpful information to all. LMK if I forgot anything!

This thread has answered a lot; however, my HT says they take competitor coupons but they have yet to take a 5 off of 50 from Food Lion. What kind of coupons do they actually take?

Yes. you are right. You can use as many coupons as you want but they will scan at face value. Also, you can use more than three like coupons, they just have to be keyed in at face value instead of doubling or tripling. You can also use as many internet coupons as you want in one order, but we can't use more that two of the same internet coupon in an order. I know this coupon policy is very confusing because they keep changing it. I think it has changed at least three times since I've been with HT (i've been with them almost 4 and a half years). Its frustrating to me as much as it is to customers. They need to stop changing it and keep it the way it is now. Also, I don't know about any other store, but my store won't let us take a coupon if the expiration date isn't visible (i.e. cut off, torn, etc.). The only way that we can take a coupon in that state is if the customer has a coupon exactly like it to prove it isn't expired or if we know the date on it. I hate all the strict rules.

That is probably because HT makes you have the 50 AFTER the coupons are taken off whereas FL counts it before.

"10. We accept 20 double coupons per day per household with VIC card; all others redeemed at face value. The register/computer system will acknowledge your VIC card 5 times per day. It does NOT track coupons. So, technically you can make 4-5 trips into HT on one day and use (20) coupons each time."
