I'm a total newbie and haven't posted before, but I have to share this. I was in HEB today and picked up three jars of Vlasic relish. I had three coupons for $1.00 off from Vlasic website. The relish is on sale for $0.89. So, the relish was free. Checked out and didn't catch that the relish didn't ring up right. Told you I was a newbie. Realized I was charged $1.85 per jar instead of $0.89. Went back through the line and manager waved me over to a different register. Explained the situation to cashier and she was completely bewildered. Wanted to know if the relish was in salespaper. Hello? Does it matter? Explained politely that the price was posted on the shelf. She said, "Well, I will have to go check it myself" I'm like ok and follow her. She stood there and stared at the relish. She would like at it and then check the receipt. She finally took my jar and held it up the others and said "Well, they're both dill relish" I explained again. Ma'am the relish is $.89 so with my dollar off coupon that makes them free. She finally got a supervisor and she told him "I think you are supposed to take the dollar off of the original price of $1.85. WHAT?? I said, No, Ma'am You have to give me the sale price. The coupon makes it free. Finally the manager brings me back to the original register (resulting in yet another completely confused cashier) and goes through the arduous process of giving me a refund. He kept explaining that he the coupon would have only counted for $0.89 and he couldn't give me the remainder. I never wanted extra money back. I only wanted FREE relish. Anyway, to top things off when I got home I only had 2 jars of relish. They apparently kept the jar they were waving around. So now I'm out money. Augghhh! Sorry, for the long drawn out story but it seemed so crazy they the coupon confused them like that.

sounds like an issue with their pricing - the fact that you had a coupon really has nothing to do with their shelf price not being accurate.

the mgr was within his right to only give you .89 for the coupon - not the full dollar - but I don't see why that's a issue since you weren't expecting the overage anyway.

some people just don't like to see things go for "free" - what they obviously don't realize is that they will now get $1.08 back for that 89 cent jar of relish. welcome to couponing!

I love HEB, but ours isn't too coupon friendly.

I only go there about once a month (and my poor child still faithfully collects his buddy bucks like they will one day add up to something) and I don't like it. Our store is laid out weird and one time they gave me an issue w/ my formula checks. On top of all that, the combo locos are never on products I would actually purchase if it was not free...so you THINK it is a better deal than it is.
