| He tried to hand me the baby in the shower!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am so mad about this, I think I might just explode if I don't get it out! My DH, and no I do not mean "Dear", was watching the kids so I could take a quick shower, the new babe had just fallen asleep. I must tell you this before I continue, he's a pilot so he's gone 5 or 6 days at a time, free to sleep or shower whenever he wants, at least whenever he's not eating room service in some hotel. I run up the stairs, jump in the shower and no sooner do I get the shampoo in my hair, the door flies open and he's standing there holding a screaming baby. He tells me he can't get her to calm down I'm gonna have to take her. I am naked, wet and covered in shampoo. I could've killed him already, but then he decides to open the shower door and try to hand her to me. I could kill him. I finally get a chance to take a shower without worrying about the babe if she wakes up, and come to find out that I'm better off taking quick showers while he's not even home. Needless to say, my shower got cut short, but I did not even touch her when he tried to hand her to me. I just wish he would stop depending on me to do everything for the kids ALL THE TIME! Just because I do it all while he's gone doesn't mean I shouldn't get some sort of break when he's home! Okay, I'm done, at least I got that out! Thanks for listening! |

Lock the bathroom door and shove a towel under the door so he can't open it. I'm just sayin'...

I also like Emily's idea. I can remember many a shower with a baby strapped in seat in bathroom so you could take a shower. I shower to your self with a new born is like winning the lottery. Next time lock him out.

I always love it when Emily rec. the "come to Jesus". I wonder how many her DH has gotten ![]() Seriously, that sucks. I always hate being "default parent" and I think most of us have had a moment like this before. Our twins were a week old and my Dh told me he couldn't handle all the helping and asked when I was going to get the twin thing under control by myself. Well, you can guess the wrath that followed next. He's actually pretty helpful now...nowhere near like another female would be, but the babies like him more than my oldest did at that age and I'm convinced it was because he had to do more bottle giving and diapering and stuff.

I think a lot of men are that way...they can't seem to take care of kids as well as we can. It's a mom thing, and I agree with locking the door!

Oh, yeah.. sounds like my DH. Actually, the truth of the matter is they are babies themselves! How can they take care of the babies if they depend on us to even take care of them... I blame myself for spoiling the DH... but, I'm not even going to go there! Anyway, like said above, lock the door and ignore it. As long as he has the baby in his hands, don't worry. That's a lesson I have learned myself. Let the baby cry and give him a headache... if something were seriously wrong, I'm sure he'd bang down the door to get you. Good luck!!!

Come to Jesus meetings are sometimes necessary. This would have been a lock the door, shove a towel under said door, crank the music (or if you REALLY want to give him a full dose: sing) and wait it out in your nice shower. THEN have a totally unexpected come to Jesus meeting after the kiddo's go to bed. Let him get comfortable and make sure there is nothing else he *needs* to do so he can't weasle out of it. If need be, you can use the same tactic as you did to keep him out of the bathroom only reverse. Lock the door and shove a towel under said door so he can't get out!

You are all the greatest! I laughed so hard while I was reading these responses! The babe was nursing, and she stopped and just stared at me. That's it, mommy's finally gone nuts! ![]() With this baby, my hubby has sunk to a new low. For the first month of her life he walked around sneezing everytime he got within 5 feet of her. Oh no, you'd better keep her away from me, she might catch my cold. No Dawn, I can't take care of her for 5 minutes, remember, I have a cold. OMG Thank God his "cold" has at least disappeared! ![]() Don't get me wrong, it's not all bad, it's just so overwhelming at times. Our closest family members are 4.5 hours away, so there's really no break, not to mention that we've never used a babysitter. That's why most nights you'll find me hanging out on AFC, spending my "quiet time" with you guys! |

To remedy the "cold" excuse...buy him a mask and tell him to go wash his hands then come take the baby. Don't give him the option of not helping.

My hubby drives over the road and he came home only once and told me he needed a break and I told him I'm up every night with them when they can't sleep no matter how old they are and I do everything you don't need a break I DO. Pretty much he stays up with them all the time now when he's home

I think Emily and Therbel have great ideas. I would not have gotten out of that shower. I would tell him to get out of the bathroom. If you jump every time then he might always expect you to do it. If he had to walk around with a crying baby then oh well he has to walk around and calm the baby down. Men!!!!!!!! Go out for girls night. It's important that you get out and have time just for you.

| Exactly. And bring a radio and turn it up real loud so it drowns out the crying. Seriously nothing really bad ever happened to either a baby or a father when the baby cried for 10 minutes or so.

LOL, it's a very serious talk. Basically this is how it's going to be from now on...it's a silly little expression I've used for a long time, LOL.
