| foodtown wouldn't allow reusable bags
I usually don't shop at Foodtown, but I was visiting my mom in the hospital, she wanted some tylenol and it was near by and they had a few ok sales I was going to get. I almost always bring in my reusable bags everywhere I shop. since I walk and take the bus everywhere I prefer to use them since they are stronger and I don't need to worry about them ripping like the thin plastic bags. I've used them everywhere, Riteaid, Walgreens, Stop & Shop, Walmart, Target, Shoprite, the mall and no one has ever said anything. Well, as I was walking around staying to my self minding my own business like I usually do, someone called "Miss!" and I turned around kinda surprised since no one ever bothers me and I couldn't believe it, the manager was behind me and then said I can't be in the store with those type of bags. I was "huh? what type of bags" he said "the reusable bags, we don't allow them in the store, if I want to use them I can fill up the cart, check out and just put the items back in the cart and bag them outside" I said "really, I use them everywhere and noone ever says anything" and he just "not in here". I said "oh I was just getting some things on sale and I came here from the hospital and my mom wanted something" and he was just "ok, but you can't have those type of bags in the store". I said so I can't even just buy a water since it's really hot? He said no And I went on to say you know there's a new Shoprite across the street now, you are really willing to lose a customer when you have compete against them? And he said "Well why didn't you just go there instead" I couldn't believe he was willing to lose business and a customer like that, especially with a new supermarket they have to compete against. And I was pissed he wouldn't even let me buy the water in this heat. I think Foodtowns are independently owned so I don't know if I can complain. I'm not sure if he was the owner, head manager or just a part time manager on duty.. I'll be looking into it but I don't think anyone will listen if he is the main manager. but that's it, I was going to start shopping in there sometimes if they had decent sales but now they lost a customer for good! |

wow! I have never heard of a store doing that, even if it was for the reason of high theft, they should allow you to leave them up front. They are going to have a lot of pissed off customer, most stores encourage them for environmental reasons. That is so weird!!! I'm really sorry your trip was unpleasant, we dont have one of them around me or I would band them for sure!

I am so sorry for how they treated you. When I was younger I worked at a foodtown and looking back I honestly think they had bad customer service all around. I'm not sure where your foodtown is located but they where very picky and defying with customers always never letting them use coupons. I really thought when I was younger that it meant one like coupon per transaction because managers would teach us that. Also they almost never allowed coupons and kind of gave people attitude when they would use food stamps. I know they got mad at me once when I had my mom go buy soda that was on sale and she tried doing three different transactions all because she was using food stamps. Mom never shopped there again not only because of the treatment but because it was A LOT more expensive there.
