So I went to Wags today for the Ecotrin deal and figured I'd pick up the stuff to do smores for tomorrows cook out. Went over to grab the marshmallows and they felt a little hard so I figured I'd double check the date. Well I'm glad I did because they had expired in August 2011, October 2011 and March 2012. Figured I'd be a good citizen and check the rest of the shelf and sure enough they were ALL bad. I put them all in the basket and found the manager, she was very nice and was glad I brought it to her attention but I left so disgusted.

There was a line from CSI (I think) a long time ago about never buying food at a drug store. You're right, that IS gross. I always check dates everywhere I go. |

I always check exp dates too... I've seen many people grabbing bread or milk or this kind of stuff without looking at the date, yuck... it makes my stomach instantly cramp. Not that I find a lot of expired products, but you never know...better safe than sick...

A long time ago before I was smart about these things (I was about 18 ) I went to the WAGS down the street where I worked to grab something for lunch. I picked up a NesQuick Strawberry Milk and EZ Mac. Standing outside the store I took a big gulp of milk and instantly got sick. It had curdled... so I took it back inside and got my money back and a free non expired Roberts brand strawberry milk. I went back to the milk department and all the NesQuick was expired by like two weeks! The manager said "We're short handed today so we haven't gotten there yet." Ever since then I refuse to buy and food products at WAGS.

We never buy our milk there no matter how cheap - its always either already expired or about to. No problem at CVS.

I must be honest, but most of the time, the only thing I check expiration dates is on milk and bread but after reading this, I'm checking everything.....

I've never thank goodness had an expiration issue buying from the local stores. But I usually only will run in there for milk. The one time I ran in there for eggs I was irritated to find that about 95% of them were broken. I'm glad I had checked mine before leaving. And even after telling the cashier, I'm not sure they did anything about it.

I hear ya about the eggs! The last 2 times that my WAGs ran eggs for $0.99 a doz, I went to grab a couple dozen up & ended up PMing at Walmart. Both times they had several dozen on the shelf, but you couldn't even make a whole dozen if you went to the trouble of rearranging all of them to get the broken ones out.

A couple months ago I went in a grocery store and they had vegetable oil on a clearance rack with peelies on them. Naturally, I checked them out and pulled off the coupon to read it. It expired in early 2008 and then I checked the vegetable oil expiration date and it expired in mid 2008. Don't they check the dates???

I have always checked dates on milk and cheese and bread but I had a friend who works at a large popular store who told me to always check my dates when I buy anything their because their company is terrible about getting expired food off of their shelves and it's so true!

I work at Wags and we are generally pretty good about the cooler stuff I will admit that the dry grocery department sometimes has expired stuff. I was just stocking last week and pulled stuff out of a warehouse tote that had expired back in December! This was brand new stock that had just rolled off the truck! Between the hour cuts and people actually losing their positions I have a feeling it's only going to get worse.....

I quit shopping at Wags 2 yrs ago when I was trying to decrease the chemical food & OTC chemical load in my body. Recently, I got some Milk there, & hadn't known about these stories--thanks for the heads up. |
